I have one in my garage, the rear tire. Kenda Kanine. Paid $96 including shipping from MotoSports.... waiting for the weather to warm up so I can have the dealer install. I guess I'll be the "test case". Still in the dark on what inflation pressure to use. I'll post the sidewall information from the tire when I get back in town. After I post the info, maybe someone can give me some recommendations on proper inflation, otherwise I'm going with 28 psi.
So I want to take this as good news that will eliminate the hassle of getting a dealer to put on a car tire.
Questions I have, is Kenda known for making a decent tire of any type (if no it doesn't mean this one isn't good, just not a great indicator) and since it "looks" more car tire spec size does that meant dealers may be more forgiving about putting on a car tire that is rated for the rim than they are now?
I kinda doubt it. I do remember that the sidewall on my Kenda Kanine says "For Motorcycle Use Only". My dealer asked if that was on there and I said yes. He said, "OK, then I can install it". All the dealers in this neck of the woods won't substitute car tires on the Spyder.
I may just buy the full set and see how they do.

Interesting how they make specific reference to "passenger car replacements" and being better than stock.
"Greater mileage than stock, better handling than passenger car replacements."
Mind you, if it says this on the sidewall, then these tires are gonna be ILLEGAL for anyone to fit on an OE Spec Spyder rim here in Aust, cos our Spyders have 'J' type CAR rims & it's the legal responsibility of both the vehicle operator and the tire fitter to ensure that tires labelled 'MC' or 'Motorcycle Use Only' ARE NOT used on &/or fitted onto CAR rims & vice versa!! :gaah:
However, all that aside, Kenda have been known to make some pretty good tires, but that does seem to be fairly dependent upon which factory they come out of & what their intended use is..... I guess we'll hafta wait & see. :dontknow: AFAIK, these tires aren't available in Aust (yet?) & from what I've been able to find out, there aren't any of the usual tire importers even considering them for Aust..... yet?!? :sour:
I wanted to replace the front two tires anyway, so I bought the front set of these new kendas. I guess I will find out how good they are.

Anyone know offhand what the Max Inflation Pressure on the old OEM Kenda's is (Rear Tire)? I mean max pressure listed on the tire sidewall, not what the Spyder Owners Manual recommends. I just wanted to compare to the new Kanine. Thanks.
As someone mentioned, $230 for 3 is a good price, plus dealers can do the install without all the hassle. Maybe Kenda has it right..

So, the new Kenda Kanine rear tire is max pressure of 44 psi at 882 lbs. max load vs. the old OEM Kenda rear tire of 30 psi max pressure at 882 lbs. max load. The Can Am Spyder Manual for the old rear tire recommends 27-30 psi normal inflation pressure (near the max for that tire).
Just doing a basic scale-up using the max pressures would lead me to believe that the normal inflation pressure for the new Kenda Kanine tire should be about 40 psi? That seems kinda high. Any tire guru's care to chime in? I'm certainly no tire expert.
Until the Actual specs are posted for this tire …. I will reserve judgement ….. guessing about this or anything else is a big mistake …… Mike :ohyea:

You'd need to include the static load your 'fully loaded with ryder/pillion aboard' Spyder is imposing on that rear tire to even roughly calculate the static inflation pressure required, and then there's all the other variables that might come into play.... :dontknow:
Have you weighed your loaded Spyder with ryder/pillion aboard lately? Any place with a weigh-bridge should be able to help (garden centre, wood-lot, public weigh-bridge?!?) And weigh the front end & the rear separately, making sure the Spyder is level & loaded normally when you do it. ;)

Using some research (done by you) previously on weight distribution, I think that a 2017 Spyder RTS with a normal load and a 175 lb rider (me) should weigh a total of about 1250 lbs. Using an estimate from your research of about 45% of that weight on the rear wheel, that puts the rear wheel load at about 560 lbs. With a second passenger, it would be up to 625 lbs on the rear tire. Given those (estimates).....what inflation pressure would you use for the Kenda Kanine rear tire given the specs I listed previously?

Bearing in mind that the ryder/pillion weight isn't all carried by the rear tire (because of the frame & suspension/swing arm/shock design, an increasing percentage of that weight, said % dependent upon the load on the rear frame, gets transferred forward & onto the front tires) so I'd be a little bit surprised if the rear of your Spyder actually got that high Hank. But IF the load on the rear tire is really that close to 300kgs, then given what we know so far, a rough 'educated guess' for your ideal pressure in that tire would be somewhere in the vicinity of 28-32 psi - BUT and please note well... that is pretty a rough guesstimate at this stage, because just like Mike said earlier, until the ACTUAL specs on these tires are made available, we really don't know enough about them yet.... :dontknow:
Understood, I'm just looking for a place to START the process. Can Am and Kenda have been ZERO help with this, and I need to tell the dealer/installer..."Fill it up to XX psi". 28-32 isn't that much different than the stock OEM Kenda recommendations in the Owners Manual, but even with the increased "max" psi rating of the new Kanine I would feel safer starting off with a pressure that won't blow my tire up on the 80mile trip home from the dealer. I'll start with 30 psi/single rider and see how it goes Thanks for the help.
PS. What "actual" specs are you looking for. Something that I didn't list on the sidewall markings?
