When you gas up how many gal do you put in, and how full do you fill the tank?
I also have a 2015 RT-S, and I'm getting 210 miles from a tank of 91octane, with 2up. I fill it until I can feel it with the tip of my finger up to the first knuckle. My calculations = ~35mpg which gives me ~ 1 gallon left in the tank. :ohyea:
Everything affects the MPG. Now if you start out and fill the tank...I fill till it shuts off then retract the hood and slowly fill till it bubbles back at the vents on the filler tube. Then ryde till you get the red light. Fill up the same way and divide G into M and see the result. Most will have a gallon + left and the specified capasity of the tank can never be achived so go for the MPG and not the tank. Now the next time you would have to do the same ryde the same way to get the same mileage...
I do divide the miles by the gallons shown on the pump.
Basically you are not giving us enough information. You did not tell us how full you are filling the tank. How empty you are running it. How many gallons it take to fill. Just not enough info.
Filling until the handle kicks off. It's not full.
When the fuel light comes on. It's not empty.
If you really do have abnormally low gas mileage. Maybe too much oil in the engine or multiple other reasons.
Then that would give you an accurate mpg reading at each fill up, if that number does not fluctuate greatly, you're getting a true picture of your fuel consumption.
FWIW, I've been getting 33 -35 MPG but my Spyder is barely broken in. Just over 3k now.
Me too.
But I don't really CARE.
Unless it changes drastically, that is.
I find that the analog gauge hits E.....and the warning comes up......and my trip meter hits 200 all about the same time.
I don't often run it that low though. I start looking for gas at the 3/4 empty mark.
Hello everyone
BRP wrote that highway speed with a full tank, should have to do 400 kilometers or 248 miles with a full.
FlyBoy2121:thumbup:
The most recent fill up on my 2018 F3L. Note the fuel tank is slightly bigger on the F3L. 27 liters (7.1 US gallons) vs 2015 RT 26 liters (6.9 US gallons)
Went 370 kms (230 miles)
Distance to empty 33 kms (20 miles)
To fill tank it took 24.535 liters (6.48 us gallons)
So that works out to 6.63/100km (35.48 mpg)
My new 2018 RTL has settled into a 31-32 MPG average, as calculated manually. While one tank fill will give you a fairly good idea, average it over a few and you'll get a clearer picture. My best was a little over 40 MPG at around 55 MPH, worst was about 29.5 when honking on it at 75 MPH. These things really are barn doors, after all. BRP tells you that in their expected gas mileage vs speed diagram.
The BRP flyer I saw said tested at 202mi/325km at 75mph sustained. it's in the small print of the 2014 RT PDF. Just filled my 2014 up Monday and checked mileage - I'm sitting just over 38. But that's the first tank, so we'll see how it goes over time.
I have found that I usually get 32 to 35 mpg on trips where I cruise at @ 75,always 2 up and fully loaded with luggage.I remember getting like 38 mpg one time while cruising in the mountains of NC.This was lower speed ,2 up and no luggage.Only 1 time have I gotten 200 out of a tank.I wish I could get better mileage but 3 hours of riding is about all I can take without a break anyway. On a sidenote my last bike ,a 2003 GW got almost exactly the same MPG.
2017 F3L here, mostly ridden 2-up (about 70% of time) on secondary highways in Ontario (summer) and Florida (winter) cruising at 55 mph (90 km/h). That's average speed; we do go faster at times, also slower as we 'play tourist'. Same 1330 engine. Always filled with premium fuel, 91-93 octane. Intermittent consumption checks over the past two years show I'm averaging just over 39 mpg, or around 6 liters per 100 km. Twice in the past month or so, I've had my best results - over 43 mpg (5.4 l/100 km). Not sure just why - weather, blend of gas, or what? I did have an oil change/check-up with belt tension/alignment adjusted just before this. Riding style hasn't changed a lot over time or place. I do know that when we increase speed and/or do Interstate travel, the consumption rate increases and mpg shows a decrease; never usually goes much below 37-38 mpg, unless I pull a trailer. Even though it's a fairly light and aerodynamic Fibro-Concept, gas consumption will increase dramatically - we'll only get maybe 30-32 mpg, even if trailer isn't heavily loaded. My fill-ups are recorded on Fuelly - http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/can.../bushrat/69131. Several other Spyder owners, including other SL members are also shown there. One has even recorded far better results than my own, but I'm very pleased to date. I know I'm pretty safe in expecting 250 miles or 400 km from a tankful. I always fill to top, and keep slowly topping-up, even after pump wants to shut off. I try to fill to the tube. I figure on getting at least 25 miles or 40 km for each of the 9 lit-up bars on the fuel gauge. I have gone completely through them all a couple of times, running on reserve as close to empty as I dared - gone as much as 255 miles (410 km) and still had something left; perhaps 3/4 gal. or 3 L, if BRP capacity figures are accurate. Usually, though, I do try to fill when i still have 1/4 - 1/3 tank left. Hope this helps.
I’ve done 250miles on tank doing 45-60 mph.
My 2015 RTS 29-33 MPG is the norm. I have got 38-39 on the Blue Ridge Parkway running mostly 45 mph or lower. Range between fuel stops is limited in my opinion.
Miles per tank is difficult to convert to MPG. Why not use the trip miles and divide gals pumped into trip miles, good information for every fill up.
MPG...can be roughly calculated if you do it the same each time.
Trip meter to zero when filled.
Fill to the same level each time.
Divide trip meter mileage by pump information. PS. I round to one point. 5.8 etc.
RT's with the three cylinder (2014 and above) mostly get about 38 + mpg. I mostly go 200 miles between fillups....unless riding with the 2011 two cylinder. Then, its 150 miles, (when her refill light goes on).
Precisely, long rider from AR with almost 34K comments has it nailed.
Thanks for the comments as it has helped me average them to be about 35 mpg. more or less. I fill as full as I can get and that means drawing the nozzle out of the tank and slowly putting as much more as the auto shutoff will allow. Then drive until the yellow light comes on which mostly means I'm low and should stop within 35 miles. But, I DO carry 2 liters in a spun aluminum fuel cylinder in the rear compartment, just in case at the end of that 35 miles there is not a gas station. That should give me another 20 miles. If that fails, I have one of two motor clubs bring me gas on the road side. And if that fails, I use Spot to get someone to come look for me. But just so you know, I've only pushed it that far 5 or 6 times in 4 years. But I'm ready...
When we were in AK, few filling stations and in places, a lot of miles in between. We always went the conservative route. I pushed the mileage to within fumes only one time, on my 08 GS. 184 miles and 5.8 gallons to fill it up.
Fuel cells to carry.
