I've started thinking I'm shopping my way to Alaska! It's done now, though. Crater Lake again tomorrow and then onward!
Something else I learned today - Oregon has no sales tax! Cool!!

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/a...d=110031&stc=1Yesterday was Crater lake Day for us in Oregon. Great place! Deepest lake in US, fourth deepest in world. Depends on snow (43 ft per year average) and rain to for its water. Set world record for water clarity. No pollution because there are no inlets from rivers or streams. Factoid: lake has log floating vertically in water that has been there for more than 100 years. Called the Old Man.
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/a...d=110032&stc=1 On our way to Alaska! Drove by Walker Lake near Hawthorne NV, about in the middle of the State, which most know is landlocked. It is the home to the Naval Underwater Warfare Center (for real). When we first moved to Vegas I was told they operated two man subs in the lake to practice warfare techniques. More than that, conspiracy theorists postulate that the lake is connected to the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California by a series of caverns over 100 miles long and that the lake serves as a top secret nuclear submarine base since no one would think of looking in the middle of the desert for submarines. We stopped hoping to see the submarine races but only spotted a periscope shown in the lower right of the picture.
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/a...d=110033&stc=1Passed through Beatty NV on way to Alaska. Caught a couple of gals waiting on the downtown corner for a couple of Jacks to come by. Offered them some carrots and a ride but they were not interested.
Wow, Tommy those are awesome pictures. Are you taking all of those with your new little inhaler camera?
We love those pictures! Take more!
MAGNIFICENT Pictures, obviously the trip is going well, no issues other than shopping and running out of room. Once again, travel safe, and enjoy, keep posting. My Alaska cruise is quickly coming, so hope to come home and read all the posts and see the pics.
Joe just left to pick up our dog sitter. The bikes and trailer are packed, we head out for Pocatello, ID in the morning.

Hi Patti!

When do you figure that you'll be meeting up with the rest of the gang that's going to invade Alaska? :D
1st stop, St. George, Utah. Gas and breakfast; NV,AZ, and Utah....before breakfast! Running great, cool 80's. Sweet!
As a old time Alaskan who has driven the Alcan many times. May I suggest some one in your party pick up the latest edition of the Alaska milepost. It covers all the routes to Alaska and in Alaska. As a lot of the fuel stops have closed due to less traffic . I never drove the Alcan with out one. I wish I was young enough to go with you. Watch out for the wildlife and don't pet the grizzles.
