I always drain the oil first. Much less messy! It holds some oil, and even after draining, some drains out. You could raise the right side on a ramp, and just do the filter, but, I’ve not tried it. I did replace a clutch on a VROD, leaning the bike over. That was because the owner did not bring oil! It worked, but it really is easier to drain, replace the filters, then refill. I don't know your oil change sequence but why not wait until your next oil change to attack the trans filter. After all, it's just a chunk catcher. Mine was so clean I saved it and may use it again. Once you see it you'll know what I mean. JMHO but the cover should be made out of "see-through" material so you can visually check it. IE, don't change it until something gets caught in it. 28K change is just a suggestion. You could change it at 20k or 35K it doesn't really matter unless BURP left a set screw rolling around in there somewhere. Come to think of it, maybe that's why that filter is there.

Yes I've had it less than 3 1/2 years. I ride between 8 and 9 k per season. I live in Wisconsin so it is put away for 4-5 months.Quote:

Ok. I'm going to do my oil change and Trans filter this weekend. Do I need to remove the right driver floorboard to get the Trans filter off. My floorboards are in the position #3.
If the F3 frame is the same as the RT the bottom screw is hard to get at. Get a set of small bits and a small ratchet from HF and you can get into that screw easily to get it out. Otherwise, it's B*^%H!
