I am looking for a pair of riding boots - don't have to be waterproof, looking for general riding. Doing research there are a lot of choices, it is overwhelming. Any body have any thoughts they could share?
Thanks,
Jim

I wear Justin, George Strait waterproof boots.
The shaft is not as tall as a western boot.
I've worn two pair for about 4 years now and love them
Any wester store can order them.
I get mine in an ee width which I love!
I think I paid $139.00 for my last pair!
Tourmaster and TCX are two great companies.
I wear a pair of Bates work boots or doc martens
I wear Justin western boots or Smith & Wesson waterproof tactical boots.
I still have my original Icon Field Armor boots. Not great to walk in, but definitely protective. I have a set of Bilt waterproof for winter riding as the Icons are vented.
I have a pair of Joe Rocket boots and Redhead Western work boots. Both have side zips for easier access. Both are waterproof. If I'm on a longer tour, I'll wear the Rockets... for a day ride, usually just throw on the work boots . Both are not too bad for walking around, but the westerns are a little bit better for that.
After getting caught in the rain the first time, you'll wish you got waterproof boots.
Thanks for the advice all - a friend recommended Bates, I wanted to make sure I make the right choice.
I got turned onto Bates when I was asking a paramedic friend of mine for boot suggestions for work. He said that pretty much everyone at the station he's at wears Bates because they last and they're comfortable all day long. My personal experience is that he's right.
Are all the Bates boots lace-ups? https://www.googleadservices.com/pag...BAgMEAE&adurl=
Which of the TCX do you have experience with, Ann? https://www.cyclegear.com/tcx-boots?...AaAg65EALw_wcB
Recently bought the Klim Outlander. Waterproof and very comfy. Been in rain for the last 4 days and not a drop inside.
Another vote for Bates. I have worn Bates service boots for years as riding boots. All day comfort walking or riding. I prefer the style with mesh panels - they are cooler in the summer, and I have light nylon rain over boots for the rain. They also seem to last forever. I have a pair of non-mesh waterproof Bates boots for the colder weather.

Those are the ones I have
I have the TCX X-5 EVO Gortex Boot. They are on close out at Revzilla for only 199.00 ( Regular 289.00 ) Comfortable and waterproof.
Been wearing my BMW waterproof boots for about 20 years...the rubber instep of my right boot recently split open, so I popped into local Cycle Gear and bought these for $70! The fit in the store was great...I wear a men's 6! Have yet to ride in them though.

I may also consider these for the warmer weather...since my ST-S puts a lot of warm air on my right foot.

I wear TCX or Irish Setter boots.
I've been using CruiserWorks for years. USA-made, and mine are waterPROOF. Haven't tried the current version, but if they are using the same lasts, should be good to go
Take a look at Bates. Well made and you can wear them all day. Lightweight too.
Combat boots or Paratrooper boots give good ankle support. Otherwise go with some specialized motorcycle or dirt bike boots. Some good ones have already been suggested.
I wear leather boots, over the ankle. No particular brand.
They are comfortable.
