Dealer problems - opinions

Live in SW FL and have been working with a dealer by phone in central Florida. I left a deposit for an RT on Wed under the impression that they had access to the particular bike discussed. To even get to that point was painful, even though they advertise no fees, they have fees. When I questioned this and emailed their ad, they reduced the fees but raised the price on the Spyder. Sick of the calls and emails and wanting to expedite things, I agreed and left a deposit. I've asked for ANY paperwork from them, receipt, contract, simple list of cost breakdown, etc with no luck. Now I'm told they can't find the model we agreed on. I was promised to get it next week and obviously that's not going to happen.
What would you do:
- cancel credit card deposit and run away screaming
- be patient and trust the dealer
- file complaints with BRP, consumer affairs and state AG
- post dealer reviews on net by name
- try to work with the manager at the dealer
I'm trying the last option come Monday and I've of the opinion to give them a couple of days to come up with something and then just walk. Any other thoughts appreciated.

I would go there today, speak with the owner and I think you will know what to do after that conversation. It sounds to me like your working with a salesperson who doesn't have a clue. I would definitely get something in writing before you agree to anything.

My theroy is if the sales are that painfull how scarry is the service? I would run. But thats just me.

Ive been in sales all my life and thats no way to start a relationship with a customer and like what was said before hows service going to be after the sale? Sounds like you have a salesman that doesnt want to split the commission of the sale with another so he wont ask for help out of sure greed and he has no glue what he is doing. Not knowing the laws of sales in your state, I would go cancle the order with the dealership and they can revers any charges on your credit card, along with any bank withdrawls, you dont own it until you drive it over the parking lot curve of the dealership, now if it was me I would wait until they had it all put to geather take it for a test drive and then give back the keys and tell them its not what you want, you dont own it until you cross that threshold. There R tons of dealers that will bend over backwards to earn your business. Best of luck but run and run fast to the next dealership.....:banghead:

After reading your post...my style would be to get my deposit back and RUN...there are good dealers .. agree with comment if the purchase has this many untruths...what would service be .. buying is the easiest part of the transaction .. my opinion. You have to do what works for you. But what you shared would never work for me...keep us posted..;)

You now know from several Ryders what you should do. Now the decision is yours, if you continue with these guys I for one will not want to hear about bad service later on. You could just call Len at cowtown and he will take care of you, it's about vacation time, take a flight up and have fun drive back.

There are Good , Bad, and People from HELL IMHO you are dealing with bottom feeders so take you're business elseware.......Good Luck.....Mike....:thumbup:

i would do what one person said try to calmly talk to owner of company and see whats goimg on .if there are no other dealers around be careful buy somewhere else you might not even get in for service with them, that was my problem i had with my local dealer since i never bought from him .next dealer was 90 miles away.

I'll probably take a hit on this but this my thought ( opinion ). For as much as I think you might have a bad dealer I think your a bad customer ! To me as a customer it is my responsibility to see ,feel touch what I'm buying and then make my best deal face to face and leave with signed paper work in hand with a confirmed pick-up date. To do a deal over the phone you will never get their best price, you will never get a true gut feeling of the salesman or dealership. Shoot me if you want but just sayin .

Thx for the replies..The phone thing was a necessity as we have a msrp+ dealer locally with less than a one star review across the board. I had called several dealers throughout the country comparing prices and fees. I took a shot with this dealer mainly because they were only 150 miles away, state that they are the largest Spyder dealer in the country, have many people out of state order and have no fees, they also (initially) matched my best price. I have bought various other vehicles throughout the country and had them shipped or picked up, from cars to airplanes..On used items you take risks but luckily I have had no major issues or have ever had to complain. The big problem here was a sales person that is so laid back that he doesn't answer phone or emails, forgets what he told you the day before and fibs (to be kind)..Just FYI, I did reach the Manager today and he miraculously came up with an RT and emailed me the paperwork. Where it came from I have no idea after the sales person said he still couldn't find one yesterday afternoon, but I'm picking it up on Monday, he's even picking me up at the airport.
Again thx for the replies, maybe I'm not the best customer as I should have went right to the manager and avoided all of this.

RUN !!!! as FAST as you can. this is a BAD relationship
about to happen. and by the time you are finished with
it... you're NOT going to be happy.

:shocked: I really don't want to be saying this; but it ain't sounding too awful good right now... I'd suggest a face to face meeting to see if they're going to straighen all of this out before you get any deeper into it and can't swim to safety. Be ready to back away from the deal, but if and only if they seem sincere about the efforts to keep you happy should you stay in it with them...

Glad it worked out. Buying can be tricky have had my fair share of issues over the years.

I had to get to the third dealer, further from home, before I found one that seemed interested in my business. The one I bought my Spyder RT Ld from last June, actually called me a liar and cost me another $900 when I picked it up.

Keep us posted on this one. I would have cancelled and run, run, run. I have a feeling the service is not going to be stellar either.

Fortunately for me, there are 4 BRP dealers within 100 miles of me. There was only one that seemed interested getting my business. The salesman was cordial, seemed interested in what I was looking for, gave me a tour of the store that included an introduction to the parts and service department personnel, meeting the store owner, and escorting me to the garage so that I could meet the tech that would assemble my Spyder.

I wound up buying a Lava Bronze RT Limited with CB, XM radio, HID Xenon headlights, Entertainment Harness, and Cellphone Interface kit at a fair price. I hope to pick it up tomorrow. If the dealer's service department is as good as the sales staff, I hope to have a good experience when I take my Spyder back for the 600 mile service.

The other three dealers didn't get my business because the salesman at the first dealer wasn't organized and kept losing my contact information, the second dealer never returned my emails, and the third dealer was so laid back that I wasn't sure if they wanted to make a sale or just talk.

Just FYI, everything went well at pickup. No surprises although I was at dealer for 5 hours and then had to ride 160 miles home, rain, etc. Overall a good experience though.

Congrats. Spyder looks great. Love the color.

Please let everyone know about the dealers after service or how they handle any warranty issues. Chosing a dealer and hoping to never need them (like buying life insurance I guess) is a big part of the buying experience. Enquiring minds want to know...
