1st one was our starter bike, Yamaha Virago 500. We liked it :-)
140220

Next we graduated to a Honda Nighthawk 750, really liked it :-))
140221

Then the 1st touring bike. Suzuki Bandit 1200S, loved it ! :-)))
140223

Got tired of touring with soft sided cases so got the ultimate Sport Tourer, Yamaha FJR1300, really - really loved it! :)
140224

Now with the 2015 RT-L. Only had it a year or so, hope to love it as much as the FJR. I'm sure we will :D

In the last 5 years I have had a 2006 ST1300 police bike and a 88 Goldwing. I bought a 750 Nighthawk just to take one trip. Iron Butt run from Key West Florida to Deadhorse Alaska. Got home and sold it. I still ride a Honda Fury and my wife has a VTX1300. The spyder is the sweetest ride ever.

Alas, no pics of old bikes but they were:

1965 Cushman Eagle (A real dog, really bare bones)
1967 Honda Cub 50 (You meet the nicest people on a Honda)
1970 Honda CB 175 (See above)
1967 BSA 650 Lightning (GREAT Bike! Except at night)
1976 Honda CB 750 Super Sport (Fast, and the only one I ever laid down-OUCH! Road Rash!)

All of the above put together cost less to buy and maintain over the years that I had them than my current ryde:

2013 Spyder RTL (You meet the nicest people on a Spyder)
DISCLAIMER: these are all stock pictures in no uncertain order, but the same colors I had

Seriously, while I loved - in their own ways - all of my previous bikes, I have to say that with even all of the trials and tribulations my Spyder has put me through the last three years (it's due back to me from the dealer on Saturday-it's been there since October 3rd) it is still hands down the bike that the Missus & I love riding. I would not, and nowadays could not go back to two wheels. I have been bitten :ani29: and continue down that road that comes to 8 forks. I'll pick one when I get there.

the problem here in new york is the insurance, i could get the bike i like for 10k, it only has 4k miles on it. and people i rode with know the owner and the bike. but the cheapest insurance i found is 1400.00 a year. my insurance company wanted 1800.00 a year. so at 65, do i really want to spend all that money for a bike that i might not ride that much. so i am thinking about it, but still waiting to play catch up on my bills

I came really really close to owning one of those and even in that color. I did a test sit and the dealer said to start it up. When I tweaked the throttle, the torque actually made the bike want to lean sideways. I said to myself, self, methinks you could possibly get hurt on this one. So...I passed. I did have similar though--a Kawi Vulcan 2000cc. That was no wimp bike either. Both had one thing in common--they were the biggest of their kind manufactured for the general public. Two cylinder and three cylinder.

No pics of older ones, but the one before the Spyder was a Honda ST1300. Had to get my co-pilot in on one..

I did all of it in my garage, learned powder coating, made the pipes, painted it all, and laced the wheels.

Sorry for the excessive photos. I am very happy with the project, and looking for another.

1. Lambretta GT200 My folks wouldn't let me have a bike and thought this was safer!
140330 (stock photo)

2. Norman B4 ( Two stroke Villiers motor)
140331

3. Norton Atlas 750 which I later re-built into a Cafe Racer with a Commando Combat motor.
140332 (stock photo)

4. Kawasaki Z1000 A1 and was my first new bike.

5. Kawasaki Z1000ST with a Vetter fairing and touring luggage

6. Kawasaki 1000RX (Ninja)

7. Yamaha FJ1200

8. Yamaha MT03 which was a hoot but was like sitting on a concrete block!

9. Yamaha MT01 which was one of my favourite bikes but too tall for me.
140334

10. Triumph Street Triple R which probably would have killed me as it kept doing 130mph on our small "A" roads!
140335

11. So I decided that if I was going to live I'd have to slow down and I bought a mint condition 9 year old BMW R1150R
with just 7500 miles on the odometer. Loved it!
But after a couple of yearsI was having hip/ right leg problems and decided that my days on two wheels
were coming to an end which is when I discovered SPYDERS!

12. Can-Am Spyder RS-S SE5 which took a little effort to learn but was a great introduction to life on three wheels so after
two years I bought ....

13. Can-Am Spyder F3-S and despite my body going seriously wrong and causing me all sorts of grief, I'm still riding it
most days and as I am now almost broke (!) it will be my last big boy's toy!

I had the same 750 Nighthawk and agree that it was a great bike ! Honda did a really good job with the balance of ergonomics, performance and function with the motorcycle. I'd certainly call it on of my very favorite two wheelers ! The inline four was such a sweet motor.

Brion
