Started Spyder and rode 25 yards, orange screen Check Engine, turned off, removed key walked away restarted. Rode 100 yards Check Engine, let rest, third time no Check Engine rode 25 miles, no Check Engine. Gremlins? No codes in check screen.

Just make sure your fluid levels are good and keep an eye out for new warnings. That light comes on along with any other one most of the time. You could run by a freindly dealer and have them hook you up to BUDS and see if any codes went to storage...

The codes don't pop up automatically: you must retrieve them.
Were you aware of this?
The next time the screen lights up like that:
lay your thumb across the Mode, and Set buttons, and keep it there.
Then take another thumb, and push in the turnsignal switch. (Just like to cancel a signal)
That'll bring up any active codes.
if you see any: write them down!
Give this information to your dealer, and for even quicker service: report what you find in here! :D

Could be gremlins, but it is scary when the :spyder: goes into that "gotcha" mode. Confidence quickly goes down hill.

Let us know what happens with yours.

As Bob said. Next time the screen lights up like that. I will translate. The next time the check engine light comes on and while it is still on. Press the 3 buttons mentioned and the active codes will scroll across the screen. Doing so when no faults showing on the screen will not show any codes.

Were you getting the "Orange Screen of Death", when you checked? We can only pull the active codes. (The stuff that is currently happening) Your dealer can pull up ALL of the stored codes as well.
This sounds as if a trip to your dealer could be enlightening; good luck!

UPDATE:

Got to the bottom of this periodic "Check Engine" saga.

Dealer tech got codes and ran diagnostic, result.... "Multi-switch, blah blah blah" the entire right handle grip has to be replaced because the "Kill" Switch isn't always making full contact. I asked tech how serious this is and he said "it could die on you at anytime" meaning just like you hit the "kill" switch. Said to leave kill switch in "on" position and shut off with key. Ordered part, installed $550:yikes::opps: 3 year old RTL. :banghead:
