This is a great replacement battery for the Spyder if you need one. At least 15 pounds lighter, higher cranking amps, better long term storage and cycling. Lithium Ion Phosphate $170.

Needs a special charger

Let us know how it works out down the road...there are a lot of pros and cons on these batteries and the yuasa has done well. If they come out with an ion battery I may consider it...

The battery in the link is not the correct one. If you use the make sure it fits function it will tell you that. It has far too low a cranking amps and the reserve capacity is also too low. This is the correct one. http://www.batterytender.com/Batteries/360-CCA-Lithium-Engine-Start-Battery.html

Thanks for pointing that out, Billy. When I compared the Li battery to the Yuasa specs for my battery the Li didn't pass the smell test, to say nothing of the cost.

Needs a special charger

I often wondered about this. You don't install a special charging circuit in your vehicle when you install this battery. So why would a special charger be required? Install it in the vehicle and run the vehicle and the battery will charge up the same as any normal lead-based battery. And presumably a battery charger should work more or less the same way as the alternator and charging circuit in the vehicle.

Got one in 12. Never needed a charger, worked perfect. 10 year warranty. Weighed 3 #. 200 bucks, worth it.

Many chargers made for lead acid batteries have a desulfation function. This extends the life of the lead acid battery. This same function can destroy a lithium battery.

Also battery maintainers have a charging voltage setpoint higher than most vehicle manufacturers set their voltage regulators to. This is to make the customer feel good the the maintainer is working. Because it will start charging the battery no matter if it is really full or not. This higher voltage will also shorten the life of a lithium battery.

I have had a Soroia Li battery in my V-Max for over 3 years. Works perfect, light as a feather and smaller also. I think the correct charger is a must. On the Max every 5 #'s saved is one horsepower--so I gained about 2 horses when I needed to change the battery.
No matter what kind of battery you have----keep it charged and keep the terminals tight.

Sorry for the wrong link and price.

Here is the correct Amazon link

https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-BTL24A360C-Lithium-Phosphate/dp/B00F9LPKJ6/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Can-Am%7C1180&Model=Spyder%20RT%20(SE5)%7C23174&Year=2011%7C2011&ie=UTF8&n=15684181&s=automotive&vehicleId=5&vehicleType=motorcycle

It is $170

Ran this battery for more than a year in my 2011 Spyder RT and never had an issue, even in the winter.
