Just did the second oil change on my 2015 f3 that I bought new 3 months ago. When I did the first oil change there was tons of metal onot the magnetic drain plug. So now that it has 13500 miles time for the second and the same thing. Is anyone seeing this.138889

My engine is a 2014 and the oil changes at 7,359 and 14,100 total miles showed no such particles on the transmission plug magnet. I put Dimple plugs in at the 14K change and am particularly interested to see what will be on the crankcase drain plug at the next change that is due in about 1K.

Looks bad, there must be something not normal. I hope its just left over dirt but you need to be vigilant. You should let the dealer and show this evidence. Good luck.

I also have a 1330 engine .... first change was at 2200 and had some metal but not as bad as yours..... have done five and not really very noticeable except for that first one. My last three had the Gold plugs....... Mike

I had the same thing on my two oil changes on my 2015 F3. I don't think it'd out of the ordinary. Is yours a SM6 or SE6? Mine's a SM6.

Did you open up the filter to see what is in it?

the Dimple plugs...based on my research I found them "cheap" insurance....

Unfortunately there have been a few posts recently of the " DIMPLE " brand plug - - FAILING - - one with catastrophically expensive results ...... from PICS it may be the hole drilled to put the Magnet in is too large and weakens the THREADED wall and it breaks ...... The " GOLD " brand appears to not have this issue . In any case be Very very careful how much Torque you apply to either one :lecturef_smilie:....... If it leaks just tighten a bit more :2thumbs: .........JMHO........Mike

I went for a ride today so I will pull the filter apart tomorrow. But I did take a little look at it and I don't see anything.

According to the BRP parts lists for the 2014 and 2015 1330 engines, the part number for the crankcase drain plug, 420441681, is the same for both engines and there is no magnet in that plug. The only magnet is in the clutch cover, a.k.a. transmission, drain plug. That's one of the reasons why some folks switch to Dimple or Gold Plug brand plugs because there is a magnet in each plug in addition to the plugs having hex heads.

I agree--- way to much metal. Try a magnet on the metal in the filter. Non magnetic, brass tinted metal may be bearings, Magnetic may be gears.

Get it to the dealer, PLEASE DON'T LET HIM TELL YOU " THEY ALL DO THAT". Hope BRP honors its warrenty.

Dropped the spyder off at the shop just before Christmas. The shop is 120 miles away so it can be a little cold and snowy in December in Ohio!! I was not going to give up one day of nice weather so that is way I did not take it right in. I gave them the oil filter that I kept and showed them the pictures. The shop was a couple weeks behind so I hope to hear back in a week or so!

This my 3 rd response on this thread .... I just did my 6th oil change ( on 1330 ) and I has almost no particles on either GOLD plug ........ Hope they get yours solved and fixed ...... Mike

Particles are not unusual. Did you feel them? Metal aligned like that on a magnet, but if it is chalky is is not an issue. If it is gritty, that would be an issue.

I've almost always seen some metal on both my 2008 GS and 2012 RT. I think it was more common with the first few changes. I never felt it was a sign of damage or failure..... just wear.
I'll see what my F3 looks like this winter when I do the first change.

I think the fact that many (Including Me) Switch to the Gold Plugs which have a magnet about 5 times stronger than the weak stock magnet leads to More metal fillings on the tip during oil change?

I have the stock drain plugs still .... Oil change is coming up so I will keep an eye on it.

Changed my oil last night. Had a few small pieces of metal on my drain plug.

I agree with post #30. After about the 3rd oil change it is not uncommon to see the magnets lightly covered with fine power-like filings.

Something is coming apart. My guess is the clutch. Take it to the dealer ASAP. I probably would use the towing option and like everyone said, take your evidence. They will cover it.

Just lost all forward gears...I feel it's the final drive pulley but we will see!! I could be internal I guess.144707144708

If you just have reverse and neutral but no forward gears, have the dealer check the reverse actuator switch. Mine went bad last year and had to be replaced.

If the 'final drive pulley' (front sprocket?) went then you wouldn't have reverse either.
Is this an SE or SM?

Good luck !

That is what I figure. It's a sm6 and I lost all gears just grinds!! So I sent the day getting it to the shop 125 moles away hoping to get a loner like I was told when I bought the thing...no loaner and they are 4 weeks out! Going to be a very long month!

I rev'd the mine to the max quite often during the 1st 500 miles. Hit 110 mph speedo in 5th gear on my 2015 F3's SE6. Zero metal particles on the oil plug at 3000 miles. After I changed oil/filter I installed both gold drain plugs. All runs fine. In contrast to others who state they only need slightly over 5 quarts of oil--mine needed a full 6 quarts of AMSOil Metric 10W40 & the oil stick shows just at the very bottom of the adequate range. Maybe I got the long end of the oil stick :)
Mine ran much better after the oil change--the vibrations reduced, the thumb shift trans shifted quicker-I believe it takes time for things to settle down & wear in properly.
