the reason they are closing is because, business has been so bad, the the owner had to start selling his own tongue to make ends meet

On April 24, 2015, the main, Midtown Manhattan branch of Carnegie Deli was closed temporarily due to the discovery of an illegal gas line in the restaurant. Con Edison (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Con_Edison) was investigating the restaurant.[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnegie_Deli#cite_note-3) On July 28, 2015, Carnegie Deli was subsequently closed for upgrades to its energy lines after the discovery of improperly siphoning off natural gas for the previous six years.[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnegie_Deli#cite_note-4) Time Out (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Out_(magazine)) magazine reported it reopened on February 9, 2016. I also believe there was some family strife.

I only ate there once while back home on a visit. I ordered the Woody Allen sandwich. I think it set me back like $22.00 or something like that. It was, hands down, the absolute best pastrami and corned beef sandwich I ever ate in my life. Now I have what some might describe as a "hearty" appetite. Having said that, I was unable it finish that sandwich in a single sitting. Oh, did I mention the pickles? Each table had a bowl of pickles, the kind you used to be able to buy at the local deli right out of the barrel for a nickle.

I may have to give Katz deli a shot the next time I'm home. However, if they fail I will no longer have any reason to visit Manhattan. And for the record, the Carnegie Deli they have in Las Vegas is a joke and can't hold a candle to the original. But hey, at least I still have Nathans Hot Dog stand in Coney Island.

There is Harold's deli in the raritan center in Edison nj. There sandwiches are as good as the Carnegies and are difficult to finish in 1 sitting

I almost forgot about this place. Some people love them, some people hate them. I grew up on them.
