so as some of you know, i was looking at a 2014 Honda Valkyrie, it has 4500 miles on i immaculate. i got them to take 1k off the price, and today i called my insurance co. ( GEICO ) i have been with them for years. well it turns out they want 1886.00 a year for insurance. and i have a clean license. they took 1400.00 from me a year for my 2014 rt. so that ended my idea of the bike. way too much money a month, for a bike that i don't ride in really hot weather. that is why i sold the spyder.

OH WELL

That's absurd. My RTL was costing me about $450.00 per year and I thought that was a rip off. I'm paying about $1400 a year for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma and our 2012 Subaru Forester with full coverage. How can they justify almost $1900 for a Spyder?

they said it is the area i live in, QUEENS NY and the price of repairs on the bike, or in other words, BULLDINKY

ok you forced me to look at my car insurance. it is 1965.60 a year for my 2013 infiniti m37. so add that to the 1886.00 for a bike it's 3,851.60 a year just for insurance, plus a bike payment. NO WAY

I paid $1758 last year, 19.5 acres, 1700 sq ft house, 3000 sq ft shop, 18X36 in ground pool. Water runs about $25 a month, would be less but I fill the pool from the hose.

the other thing i forgot to mention last night, they also go by the size of the engine for the price of the insurance, so the spyder was 1330 cc's and the valkyrie is 1800 cc's so that is why the spyder was cheaper for insurance

But they fo go by engine displacement. That is why some manufacturers don't round off like before. 998 would normally be 1000 ...

John, it still won't hurt to shop around for ins even if you don't buy the bike. You may be able to save some money just on your car insurance.

BTW. I had Geico for 2 yrs. They keep increasing the premium.. dropped them real quick.

yea i agree, but back in 08, i changed from GEICO to progressive, i had my 08 wing and my 08 triumph rocket 3, progressive had a better price for the two bikes, and it was the first time i went down on a bike. 2200 bucks worth of damage to the triumph, 4 broken ribs, broken left scapular, some road rash, and a totaled 500 dollar helmet. so at the end of that year, i went back to GEICO. call me stupid, but it's just me

John,

We've been with Progressive for a long time now and when I went to add my son and new motorcycle (not the Spyder) they raised my premium, but by a lot. We expected some but not as much as they did...so, I went shopping. GEICO was cheaper than my 'before' price with Progressive after making the changes. When I called Progressive to cancel, they noticed how long I've been a customer and transferred me to the retention department. After a quick review of our plan, the premium quickly dropped to be lower than the GEICO quote. The point of my story....call GEICO and threaten to leave...I'm willing to bet that your premium will go down.

Good luck!

when i shopped around a few years ago, all the quotes i got told me to stay with geico because they couldn't match the price. and to change companies for a couple of hundred dollars, it's not worth it to me. i live between two bridges that go directly to the bronx, ny. so they say the area is a big factor because, a couple of blocks and the bike or car is gone and hard to find. i have been paying big bucks for years, but i love where i live, and wouldn't move for anything.

I live in Pittsburgh, i have Progressive and my insurance cost me $335 a year full coverage on my 2008 Spyder RS. I would look at Progressive, I used my full tort quote that I have on my 2014 Nissan as the template, and it was still that low.

Good luck

For $400 I'd be saying adios to the other insurance guys. If nothing else I'd make them match the price.

I was with geico since forever also with motorcycle insurance.....when I got the spyder, my rates jumped to 710. A year. I got to talking to others about their insurance costs, and I started shopping around. I first called geico to see if I could get a better rate. The agent that helped me said the ONLY thing I could do was cancel the policy when I wasn't riding it. What?? Seriously?? That sounds like a pain and I'm sure I would forget to reinstate it at some point.
Long story short, I contacted American Family and they are literally saving me 300.00 a year for the exact same coverage.
I had a broker do some shopping for me and his "lowest" rate a year was way more than what I came up with on my own. Yea, it's a royal pain in the arse, but 300. In my pocket made it worth it to me.
Good Luck!
