Here is my first purchase as an official member of the spyder shopping club.

As many of you know we purchased a Bustec hitch for my spyder during the Gatlinburg event in September. We've been kind of waiting for the finances to come together to purchase the actual trailer. Even though our income tax refund this year is smaller than normal, bjt, being the wonderful husband he is suggested we buy the trailer with those funds. It makes sense since we are going to Niagara Falls and LA and who knows how many trips in the future. On a whim I decided to look for used Bustec motorcycle trailers. On my first search on Craigs list I found a 2004 Roadstar completely decked out with all the accessories for $2000.00 We checked the Bustec price list and for us to get that same trailer new with the added accessories would be over $4000. Yesterday, we drove to Belleville Mi about an hour and a half away in the mid 30's degree weather to check it out. It is in excellent conditions. Here is a list of what he has added to the trailer from stock:
1. Chrome Luggage Rack
2. Color Matched bumper with running lights
3. Front Cooler
4. Accessory Lid Bag
5. Rear Spoiler with LED

Of course we are buying it, duh!!

The catch, it is Harley Davison Purple. Don't get me wrong it isn't ugly, it just doesn't match either of our spyders. We will either have to get it painted to match my Kandy Apple Red or move the hitch to Brian's spyder and have his painted purple. I guess there is one other option, he can haul the purple behind his yellow spyder and look like a Lakers fan.

Of course, I can and will for a bit probably pull a mismatching trailer behind my spyder. We will have to have my friend that painted my spyder give us a quote on the job. Then we can really make the decision after that.

Anyway, Roaddog, thought you would be proud of the first official purchase in the Spydershopping club.:2thumbs::clap:

do you have a picture of the hitch on the spyder and a picture of the trailer. Am very interested in buying both and would like to know how they look and how it tows.

I can tell you that the Bushteck Trailer and hitch combo tows like a dream. I have about 3000+ miles on my :spyder2: with the trailer in tow and can honestly state that you don't even know it's back there. I've said it before, and still say that the :spyder2: actually seems to handle BETTER in the twisty stuff with the trailer behind it.

Here is just the hitch on my spyder. I will post pictures later this week of the trailer and spyder together (even if it is still purple) once I pick it up. In the short test ride I did, Mike is right, it pulls well, can't even tell it is there.

Deb

When we were first married, we only had a motorcycle between us, so we got a 1970 Dodge Dart for $100.

It was a horrendous shade of yellow, (not Spyder yellow), a color not found in nature outside of vomit.

An afternoon with a few cans of flat black spray paint, and we had a vehicle that wouldn't make children cry when we drove past.

Hey, you're gonna get it painted anyhow, right?! When you bring it to your paint guy and he says, "Who the heck DID this?" you can shrug and (honestly) answer, "Hey, it was a great deal on CraigsList, and we knew you could make it right!"

John,
I think I'll just leave it purple until we get it painted. But thanks for the really swell idea...LOL

Hey Deb
You could put purple pin stripes on the hubby's: spyder2: then put yellow pin stripes on the trailer. :coffee:

When you take off the rear panel you can see where there is a place to bolt it up too, you do have to make a cut out in the panel for the supports though. Yes, that is a CB antennae, we have the J&M CB's for the Spyder but so far they have not worked real well for us. The original antennae that came with the radios were very flimsy and Brian broke his on his first ride out without even realizing it. I could hear well on mine but on our next trip, he accidently broke my antennae just by brushing by it and then neither of us could hear well. So we purchased the Firestik No Ground Antennae and we still can not hear that well, we have to be almost on top of each other on the road to communicate. We are planning on taking them to a CB place where maybe they can look at them. Maybe we aren't tuning the antennae right, I don't know. If they would work I would be very happy. I like the set up and I like that I can run my GPS or iPod through the CB. It is not a wireless set up but that is just fine.

Yeah, it looks okay on a Lakers uniform too but I really don't like it for a spyder pulling a trailer. It just doesn't work for me. Maybe I just have my mind set on getting it to match my spyder.....LOL

OK, so I search "ugliest motorcycle" and this is the third hit. Seriously.

(I guess that little fact won't help convince Brian to paint his Spyder, eh?)

It's in Russia, and it actually has a sidecar:

Any longtime Spyder forum readers might remember this. Late 2007 or very early 2008, there was a new member of the SpyderTalk forum (CanAmTalk at that time) who showed a few pictures of his custom painted purple and yellow Spyder. He was ridiculed without mercy (by his forum brothers and sisters :yikes: )and, to my knowledge, was never heard from again. I wouldn't want to follow the same fate here. :D

I dont think we would have that problem here.
We got customized spyder ranging from Cow-AM, to Transformers Spyders with guns and every paint scheme in between. I think we all just appreciate the Spyder. I am always curious to see what new paint schemes, asthetic(sp?) mods people do to their bikes.
I am still working on mine. Not sure how the end result will look but thats all part of the fun

Let's see, Saturday we rode up to my friends place so he could take pictures of my trailer and put together a quote to paint it to match my spyder.

Yesterday, bjt and I ordered some "gotta have" stuff, He ordered the VholdR video camera to mount to his helmet. and ordered the Kodak Zi6 Mini Camcorder in HD plus a 16 gig SD card for it and even a flexible mini tripod.

Next week I am going to try to order my Kewlmetal mirror extensions I think. With the risers (which I love) the mirror extensions are a must have, especially now that I'll be towing a trailer.

We looked at some camping gear but we will probably just borrow a tent from one of our siblings.

Oh yeah, the minor stuff, but it still qualifies, I bought a new visor for my helmet and it has a gradient shade of blue which I really like. I will be able to ride day or night without having to change my shield. Last but not least, I got myself a pony tail wrap. I am so tired of my hair being snarled and whipping along and the pony tail holder pressing on my head in the helmet. It will take some getting used to but it works.

Brian is considering some paint ideas for his spyder, so that is kind of shopping.
