Hydration with a helmet

Does anyone know if there's a water bottle out there that allows you to drink with a full face helmet on [besides wearing a camel bak] I'd like the option to take a sip of water at a red light or even pull over without having to remove my helmet every time.

For your next helmet---- consider a modular helmet ( flip up chin bar and visor). Then a simple drink holder on the bars works fine ( Ram makes all kind of bar acc.).

Sometimes, you have to make choices... Hydrate before you leave, and plan of refilling yourself at rest and re-fueling stops. :thumbup:

If you have an old 32oz cup from a hospital stay they have a very flexible straw that I have been able to get up inside the chin bar. Maybe if you know someone who works at a hospital they can get you a new one. I would also suggest you look real closely at a modular helmet. I have been in two accidents both of which would have resulted in facial damage without a chinbar and the modulars saved me both times yet give me the freedom to move them out of the way.

Modular helmet or the long flex straws work great :thumbup: Stopping is good for the legs as too:lecturef_smilie:
Personally i keep my hydration in the frunk to help make sure i stretch & hydrate:clap::2thumbs: The modular helmets are good for extra ventilation at lower speeds :p(I can eave my chin piece up till about 50mph)

The bladder :yikes: in a Camelback collapses as you drink, so no sloshing noises, so no pee-ing urges! Well until you have had a fair amount of your liquid stash! :roflblack:

But the stopping and removing your helmet and letting your head breath and cool with a bit of streching is still the best. I have a modular helmet but don't drink at stop lights usually on long stetches of road with no traffic to be weary of. I'm sure you can get a replacement hose and valve from Camel back and run it to your big gulp with a clip to the chin guard...:thumbup:

I hydrate before and at stops as others have said. Nevertheless, I have logged tens of thousands of miles bicycling with a Camelbak and wouldn't leave the house without it except in winter when a water bottle is sufficient. There are accessories for the CB, REI has most of them, that make using one quite comfortable. First, there is a 90o elbow you can install between the tube and bite valve. Second, there is an insulated tube with a malleable stiff wire in, called the Tube Director, that allows you to mold the direction of the tube to your body, good for routing it over your shoulder and under your full face helmet. Third, there are packs that fit around your waist instead of over the shoulders. The only problem I see is if you have a headset microphone and a CB bite valve under a full face helmet you have a face full of "stuff." Were I in the mood to buy a new CB I'd consider the Dart, Classic or FlashFlo models. YMMV.

When I rode my Iron Butt Qualifier, I used an off brand Camelback with a 90 degree valve, while wearing a full face helmet. Worked fine.
