Guess this post could go on the ST or Spider shoptalk.
Soon after I purchased my 2013 ST Limited SE5 in March of this year, I realized that I needed a taller windshield. My dealer had one in stock and installed it for me. I soon found out that it needed Viagra, it wouldn’t stay up. In the accessories catalogue was a listing for a “spring kit” to be used with a taller windshield. So I ordered it.
I recalled seeing a post concerning the installation of these springs and how difficult the job was, so I asked my ridding buddy, Dave, a retired machinist to help me. Dave not only has every tool in the world but also knows how to use them.
When the spring kit cane in I took it to Dave’s house and read the instructions. Nice pictures, no verbiage. Well, the Tupper ware came off easily in about 20 minuets. The first few bolts took a little longer to remove and then the two bottom bolts on the slides. After two hours I gave up but Dave wouldn’t. While it was possible to get a socket on the nut it was impossible to then move the wrench. Dave went into his shop and I heard a grinding noise. Out he came with the answer to changing those bolts. (See photo) He cut a small drive handle in half and with a #10 socket out came the nuts. Easy with the correct tool. Can Am should charge more for this kit and include the necessary tool for the job.
I’m still not happy with the windshield. I get too much wind buffering over 40 mph.
