Well guys it's time to get this thing moving. :2thumbs:

Some of you have no idea what this is about so you can get caught up here. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8875 :doorag:

The idea was to ride my Spyder to Daytona and get a bunch of folks to sign it there and hand it off to someone on the last Saturday and have it start it's run around North America. Well my Spyder didn't get done in time as some of you have read and I wound up having to trailer out to Daytona.:banghead: While I was there I got real sick :barf: and didn't get a chance to hand it off like I wanted to. :sour:

So now I'm feeling much better and I need to get this thing moving. I had a member that wanted it in Texas for some event the next couple of weeks but I'm not sure we can pull that off or not. I'm willing to get it heading west or anywhere else this weekend if the weather holds out.

Bottom line is this will be a sticky post that you can go to to see where the SpyderLovers Banner (SLB) is and to be a part of this great SpyderLovers journey across North America. Make sure to take lot's of pics. :doorag:

So who want's to take it from here.:dontknow: I'm in East Tn and can take it 3 hours or so to the next SpyderLover.

Hey Lamont, if you can get it headed north, I will try to meet someone to pick it up in Ohio maybe and take it through Ontario to Niagara Falls and hand it off to jeuchler who can then get it up to the New England States. We could cover a lot of ground in a short time and then start heading it back out west from there. Just and idea, let me know what needs to be done.

I would offer to meet you in Cincinatti, OH (I buy dinner) or Lexington, KY (you buy dinner :D) but it would be probably the following weekend and I'm guessing it needs to get moving before then. Also, it would probably sit at my place for a week or two until we hooked up with Director, Jeuchler, Frleo and others in Niagara Falls.

Man, that thing is huge...I'm gonna have to rethink that Givi storage system and get, maybe, a 12-foot long trailer if I'm gonna haul that banner around. :joke:

Don't worry, Lamont, we'll get this started...'though I bet if we trace the route it finally takes it's gonna look like a knotted up ball of yarn!

Computerize it. Attach a flash drive to the banner and people can document it on a text file of the date location and name of the ryder.

Just a thought.

Keep me posted on this possibility.

(I'm on the MA.NY/VT border.)

If it goes that way, I could get it to Deb & Brian (to go west) or Bruce (to go more north-er) next month our Fall trip in April.

I could get it to one of the ryders in the Toronto area shortly after Deb and Brian's Niagara Falls gathering, if you would like. I will be going further north than that, but not until May 22 for the Ottawa marathon, which is kind of a long time to hang onto the banner. Either way, I'm game, and happy to help out.

Hey Mike,
I looked at the map where you and Lamont are meeting for the banner exhange. Next weekend could you drop meet in Cinci or Dayton? or are you heading toward VT right away. If you are headed toward VT then as Jeuchler suggested, if you could get it to him, he can take it to Niagara Falls. From there, we will have Director take it through Toronto and London and then Brian and I could pick it up from him on our way back to MI. Once we get in Michigan we can take it to the west side of the state to Scotty for Photos and then take it south to some of our Ohio or Indiana riders for the next leg. Just keep me informed, I definitely want to be part of this banner run.

Deb, it may be a problem for me to get the banner to Toronto and back to you that quickly. I need to go right back to London from Niagara Falls (opposite direction from Toronto) on Saturday, April 18. We can talk about it then, and look at some options.
It occurs to me that there are some Toronto-area riders on this forum, so we may be able to hand it directly over to one of them, if any of them are planning to come to the Falls, or I could rendezvous with one of them in the Hamilton area, have them sign the banner there, then take it home and return it to you and Brian on the homeward leg of your trip.

From there Bruce can take it home on Sat. and then Brian and I can either pick it up on Sun or make a quick trip back to Sarnia the next week and meet Bruce there for a pick up. After that I will try to rally the Michigan SpyderLovers to meet and sign the banner, maybe in Hell Michigan as we seem to be able to meet there easily. After that, I can drive to either the Indiana or Ohio border if someone is willing to meet me there for a pick up. I see a path of progress beginning here, let's keep the communication going.

Hey, Mike

I'm getting ole' PE#2929 all woke up from hibernation tomorrow to start getting ready for Niagara...

It sounds like you'll be up in our neck of the woods next week some time--if i could get it from you on a weekend, that'd be great. Both the lovely bride and I are big diner fans, so if you know of any between Saratoga Springs and western MA/VT we could meet and treat you to a meal. If you feel like swinging out closer to us, we have a Hayabusa owner who runs a great coffee shop/cafe (Brewhaha) right near us.

Just pm me (if you don't mind) when you know what's up timing-wise and destination-wise. I can pass along my cel phone #, etc.

Thanks for getting this going!! :doorag:

Wish I had the kind of money I've made in mafia wars! I make $663K an hour - I really make 1.2M but it costs me half to keep up with all my cars, weapons and I have to keep armor for my recruits. Why haven't you signed on to play w/ us? I can sit on there and do nothing and make money while my other family does the work! And you can kill people on hit lists, you can die over and over, there is no end to this thing - it's insane.

Maybe we could meet you somewhere along the way though and get your signature and photo with the banner. Heck, join us in Niagara Falls in April.

Today's ride went great with a few note worthy events. :2thumbs:

I left my house just after 9 am and headed to the BP to meet Roger and his brother and another cool guy that drove all the way from Asheville to ride with us. I forgot his name already :opps: I got just about to my turnoff and the road was closed so that put me behind a bit. :sour:

When I got there the boys were ready to ride. There was one Spyder and two really nice Harleys. :spyder2::doorag::doorag:

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=171&pictureid=1482
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=171&pictureid=1483

It was a little cool (41) but not too bad. I did change my gloves when I got there. I mapped the route out on the GPS and it took us on some really great roads, not much highway at all. The Spyder was running great and I'm really digging my new Corbin bags. Everyone says it looks like the Batmobile now. :dontknow:

We were about 6 miles from our meeting place in Jenkins, KY when I looked over at a gas station on the right and saw some crazy biker waving his arms as we drove by. I wasn't sure but I thought it might have been Mike. Sure enough it was and even though he parked his Spyder on the road where I could see it there was a big group of folks around it so I never did see it till we turned around. :doorag:

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=171&pictureid=1484

We filled up with fuel and headed south to get some lunch. Turns out there was nothing in Jenkins so it was best to just head back. Mike followed us back.

We found a Arby's and pulled in there to take a few pics and to sign the banner. At first I was thinking that only SpyderLover members should sign the banner but then I thought that's not right, these guys drove a couple of hundred miles with us and they earned the right to sign the banner. :doorag:

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=171&pictureid=1485
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=171&pictureid=1486

You got to understand that Mike is missing a leg and his left arm it pretty messed up too but he still made the trip and it was a lot colder where he started from. I've ridden with this guy in many states and even Canada, he's a real hardcore rider.
Here's where I handed it off to Mike to make it's way to New York. :doorag:

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=171&pictureid=1487

While we were in line at the Arby's I asked Roger if he saw that dead cat I hit. He said yea I flinged it up at him :yikes: and then he flinged it back at is brother. :yikes: That cat got around. nojoke Then his brother told us a story about a week old possiom that he hit that flew up in his face and had him puking his guts out for over an hour. :barf: It was a great story, just not at lunch time. :D

Mike rode a little while longer and split off somewhere, I never did see him leave. We took another route home and I let the Spyder open up a bit on a long open highway. GPS said 101 and speedo said 110.:spyder:

Somewhere along the way my XM radio decided to give me fits and I was messing with it driving down the road and I hit the kill switch. That was fun.:sour:

We pulled off at a DQ and got some ice cream and shared a few more stories. All and all it was a great day. When we went to leave my Spyder had the "check engine" light flashing and then it went into limp mode. I had a feeling what it was so I popped the fuse box cover and sure enough two of the relays had come loose. The road going into the DQ was pretty ruff and I think that's what might of done it. Rogers Corbin backrest had popped out and was sitting on the rear seat when we pulled in so I'm sure that's what it was. I did pull all the relays when I got home and took some needle nose pliers to them and gave each prong a little twist so they stay in there better next time I hit a big bump.

So now the banner has been pasted on and I can't wait to read the stories and look at the pictures of the next adventure it will take. This was a lot of fun and I hope you all get to be a part of it in the future.

Hey All!

After meeting up w/ Lamont and his buddy's to pick up the banner, I followed them South on 23 a bit and then split off and took 160 over Black Mtn., the highst point in KY. Man was this a great, twisty mountain road. After getting back on 119 east and going over Pine mountain to Jenkins, I headed east to Elkhorn City. Nice Kentucky river bottom riding. At Elkhorn City I went south into Breaks Interstate Park. This was a pleasant surprise. The road in was an AWESOME twisty river bottom road with some GREAT views from thr park itself. From there
I went North again (back down that AWESOME twisty road) and took 460 back to 119 and home to Lovely.

All told Just over 300 miles today.

I anticipate a Wed. departure to Places North w/ the banner tucked safely in the front trunk of PE3069 for delivery to jeuchler (place and time still TBD, come and help).

Thanks Star but bjt and I are in Michigan. We will be in Niagara Falls with Director who is from London Ont. We are meeting jeuchler who is from MA or CT (one of those little New England states...LOL) along with HDXBones, Roaddog and Smylinatcha, hopefully. Anyway, we will be able to bring it from east to west into MI and meet up with some spyderlovers here to sign it and then either pass it off to Scotty or ride with Scotty to pass it off. Maybe we could meet you somewhere along the way though and get your signature and photo with the banner. Heck, join us in Niagara Falls in April.

Longlegs, it sounds like a Chicago meet might be a good idea, (maybe south of actual Chicago) to pass off the banner. I think we have a good path going.
If Longlegs can go south we've got ryders in Chillicothe,IL; Peoria,IL; Springfield,IL and they lead to St. Louis:thumbup:. I can go any direction from there! I would love to be apart of this and will take it toward KS or OK if needed, on a weekend! We are headed to San Antonio, TX May 30-31 time frame. Sounds like if it makes it here; it may be here earlier than May 30th!! I'll be watching the banner (GPS) :spyder:tracker!:2thumbs: Let me know if I can help!:2excited:

Now I have to go change :spyder: oil and keep 'er happy!

I think we're going to ride to Saratoga Springs to pick it up from Mike next weekend, and bring it to jeuchler in MA, the following weekend. Any in CT are invited to join either leg, or maybe we can have a "signing" get together during the layover.....We'll make firm plans later in the week, weather for next weekend isn't looking great at the moment.....

Rain in the forecast from Sunday March 29 right thru Wed April 1st.

I have this Sat, the 28th open for a ride with you guys if that works for you. Sunday the 29th, I have to be at a ceremony, and the following weekend, Sat April 4th, I have a friends 25th wedding anniversary at 3 PM. (Available in the morning tho)

If I can’t join you for the pick up or drop off ride, I would definitely like to meet you before it’s passed on to sign.

Sunday April 4th is good.

Tall order, but sounds pretty cool. We need to keep a way to touch those riders in states without dealers, or in the middle of nowhere, however. I'd make a point of trying to visit all dealers, but leave keeping it there at the option of the dealers themselves, and with the owners with custody of the banner at the moment. Even visiting one or two dealers per state or province would be pretty cool, and still would take a lot of time. This is exciting!

Ha!

We might've passed you near route 20 when we rode over to my Berkshire County Spyder dealer (with a nicely expanded display area, including three Spyders in stock) and headed past Shaker Village to Troy, NY today...:doorag:

---So we get to Lebanon Valley, NY and there are four state police cruisers parked and four LEO's standing in the middle of the road. I pull over immediately before I get to them and quickly dig for my wallet. "Put that away!" the lovely bride says, "They'll think you're trying to bribe them!"

I pull back onto the road where I am immediately surrounded by police as I try to explain, "I thought this was a fundraiser stop!" (If you've never seen it, small town police, fire, and veterans' groups up here set up "tolls" on busy side roads where folks throw donations in buckets as they drive past. My two busks would've made a pretty insulting bribe...for whatever it was my better half thought I was trying not to get caught doing :dontknow: )

They were amused as they gave the Spyder and us the once over, and then complimented the machine. One officer said "It sure sounds nice..."

I was hoping he wasn't being sarcastic, but just to be safe, I didn't make the Micron bark too much as they shooed us on our way.

I am not sure exactly what direction everything is going but I don't think it will still be on the east coast come June. If all goes as planned, we will be picking up the banner in a couple of weeks from Jeuchler in Niagara Falls, and going through Ontairo, Can. on our way through MI. Once we get to MI, there are a few folks here that will meet and sign the banner, then I do believe someone offered to meet down by the Ohio or IN border for the next leg. Of course, this thing has a life of it's own and anything could change. LOL Hope you at least get a chance to sign it and ride with it for a bit, no matter what.

We would sure like to. Who knows where it will be by the time the trip starts. Lamont and bjt and I were just talking about that earlier today. If we get an opportunity to get hold of it during our trip to LA we will make sure it gets to the BRP event. From there, Lamont said there is someone that could take it to Alaska. That would be very cool. So we will just have to keep track of it and see where it is come June 22 or 23.

tatt2r, click on the link to the diner. There is a way to get directions to it. 101 W in NH continues all the way past Keene. It's a short hop over the border on NH 10 then 93 S the VT 9. The diner is on Rt 9.

I would sure love to meet up with all you Spyder ryders. I'm going to have to play it by ear though. Keep this thread updated with any changes to time on Sunday 5/5/09.

I'll watch this thread and get there if I can.

Three hours from where I live would be about right. I guess I-91 south would be my best choice. Route 7 south would work too. If the weather isn't too bad I'll try to make it. I'm well equipped for the cold and have rain gear, but it's not much fun riding in the rain. Yesterday I rode to work at 4:00am. Temperature out was around 38 F to 40 F and it was snowing lightly at the time, with some accumulation on the pavement, but not enough to make it dangerous to ride the spyder. That is pretty cool Lamont. Of course we can be proactive from April through June. Maybe we can funnel it down through Ohio, Pennsylvania (Father Leo) and West Virgina back across Kentucky. So that by the time of our trip it is in IN or IL. We will be coming down I-69 through Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. As long as the banner is in that general vicinity by June 22nd, we will be okay. We will make sure to track it and keep track so that it can get to LA for sure!! Also, along the route to LA we have already heard from members that want to say hello, so this gives them an opportunity for a banner signing as well.

Just drove through snow all the way from Burlington, VT to western Massachusetts.

Fun.

Barb denied it was snow, even as it accumulated. She, like many of us, is done with winter and thinks she can keep it at bay and bring on the spring season by sheer will.

(I'll be there. Even though I just drove past the Royal Diner on Friday night, I had to rewire a new plug on my Garmin just now. I've become addicted to it. I put it on when I drive to work, which I am pretty sure I know the way to...)

OK, Barb and I are the first ones home, everybody else had another state to drive (NY, CT, NH).

We had a late start due to black ice, and once we got going, our friend on his Bandit had to turn around when we hit unplowed snowy roads.

Banner is safely (?) in Salem, NH with tatt2r on it's way to Maine and then back to us in Eastern Massachusetts, then to Niagara Falls, downtown Canada.

There was a solemn vow (on a stack of toenail windshields) by a certain person that that person would absolutely not use Photoshop on any of the pics he took.

So while you wait for all the other stories and photos (I think there were fourteen of us plus one doggy), here's a taste:

Nah.

We drove the shortest distance, we just went through the most weather unfriendly to bikes. Nothing compared to Ontario-typical weather, I'm sure, Bruce!

(When we hit the snow, Barb calmly kept smacking the side of my helmet.
When I turned around and yelled, "WHAT?" she just said, "You're crazy."

I think I greeted RoadDog first when we got to Brattleboro. He said "Tatt2r has an idea for rerouting the banner this week." I said, "What? We FedEx the darn thing to Los Angeles?!"

At that moment I was a bit cold, hungry, and one of my ears were ringing as if my helmet had been repeatedly smacked...but I got ungrumpy fast when we met everybody and the sun came out and we ate good food.

Hubby, Ron, and I are not in the banner pictures. We had a dog at home. Had to cut things short at the end to get on the road.

I've got mega short hair and I'm wearing a cranberry fleese jacket. Ron is mostly bald w/white hair remaining, glasses wearing a tan jacket.

Again, it was really good to put names to faces and meet up with you all.

So that's Dee, Marilyn--DynamoBT--, and Ron from left to right. OK, bjt?!

What a great day! I'm home safe and sound after an excellent "Breakfast Served All Day" meal with a bunch of wonderful fellow Spyderlovers members.

175 miles total for the day, some of it on slushy, wet VT roads. The lowest temp on the dash was 33F over the VT mountains between Bennington and Searsburg. The highest 60F when coming out of the Royal Dinner after eating.

I've said it before, the Spyder and Bushteck trailer combo handles even better than the Spyder alone! The extra weight of the trailer just seems to make the thing even easier to drive in the twisty stuff and the power (torque) band of the engine is perfectly matched to the job of hauling it all up the hills.

Great to meet you all.

Fully understand what you are conveying here. I would like to remind you there will be many group pictures taken over the weekend and with friends and veterans. A group of Spyder Ryders at this Memorial having a picture taken with a banner is far from disrespectful. Being there and honoring the fallen and showing support for those that served and still do is why I will be there.

I know I'm posting alot tonight (avoiding work) but I have to say thanks again to everybody for this memory.

One more:

I checked my answering machine messages from Sunday (yes--today, Tuesday) and my daughter says, "Oh, I think one of the guys you were supposed to meet called to check on you."

I had sent a text message to HDXBONES to whine about the weather and that we were still moving toward our destination.

Sure enough, later while Barb and I were messing with the snow and had not arrived at the diner yet, HDX had called home just to see if we were still alive.

Thanks, bro.

Thanks not required, that's just what 'bikers' do......:doorag:

I wonder if recluze, or re-clueless now realizes that you can't stereotype people like that.

If "bikers" are people like HDX and Lamont, and the group that met in Brattleboro, I would be happy, nay, proud to herd with them, wear dead animals, and flatulate.

Mail the banner?....
I thought the whole idea was for the banner to travel with a SPYDER across the states.

Figures that becuase the Banner is in Salem NH, I'm on Vacation near Columbus Ohio. (I live out side of Boston, just a bit south of Salem NH.)

oh well.

Mail the banner?....

Sorry. Just joking.:joke:

(My whiney reponse to riding in the snow to get to the last banner gathering...)

Seriously, it should get from NH to Maine any minute now, then to MA this Sunday, then through NY to Ontario, Canada on April 19 and on to Michigan around April 20th or 21st.

Great pics , tatt2r! Perfect day for the banner swap! And another ride to Maine sounds great.

But, most importantly, and I know RoadDog is wondering this too: do you still have the Sharpie?!

(Check your pm's about the next phase...)

(I think I promised or owe HDX, Smylinacha, RoadDoag, tatt2r, Dee, dltang, bjt, director...)

Anyhoo, check if I have this map correct for where the banner has been up to this point:
