First Year Anniversary Ride completed May 21st thru 28th. Went with 2 friends, both on Harleys.
Departed 21st Departed on the Auto Train from Sanford, FL to Lorton, VA at 4:00. Bikes off the train about 9:30 AM in Lorton. Neither Harley would start!! Both are 2015 models with security. They did not read their manual so did not know enough to use the setting to keep the alarms from going off when hauling. Totally dead batteries. Had to let batteries charge to get them to be jump started. Finally foo 1t 10:30 but in a cold rain. Rode to Front Royal and got fuel and had a warm lunch. Started the ride on Skyline Drive and had to do 51 miles in cold rain and fog to Mile 51 and Big Meadow Lodge for our first night reservation. DO NOT STAY THERE! Heat not on in rooms and had to get them to turn it on. Service in dining room and the food was terrible.

2nd Day balance of the 54 miles of Skyline Dr. and started down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Balance of Skyline was overcast and rained again when we got to the Parkway. Finally quit raining about 20 miles before we got to the next destination. Much better place and rooms were great as was the food and service.

3rd Day, more of the Blue Ridge Parkway and another good nights sleep. Hooray for a sunny day. 4th day, more sunshine and riding the Blue Ridge to another good nights stay. Day 5 completed the parkway in the sun and headed for an overnight in Greenwood, SC. Day 6 another sunny day and stay over in Blackshear, GA. Day 7, more sun as we rode home to The Sunshine State and our own beds.

Total traveled miles = 855 on the train and 1292 on the bikes. Final for the year on my 2013 RT Ltd = started with 9925 on the odometer and finished with 21,643. So plenty of smile miles for the first year. A fun trip (except for the first 2 days of rain and fog) with 2 good friends.

You had no problem telling us where not to stay but how about telling us where to stay?

Places that were good on the Blueridge Parkway:

Peaks of Otter Lodge at MM 86

Hemlock Inn at MM 295 in Blowing Rock. No restaurant on site but plenty of restaurants within a short walk.

Mount Pisgah Inn at MM 408

Only stayed at the one place on Skyline Dr so don't have one to give you there. The Peaks of Otter and Mount Pisgah Inn have restaurants on site that are very good.
