Ask any teenager what June 6th or December 7th signify. You would be shocked at how many have no idea. Sad state of affairs. Thanks for the reminder.

Information from the D Day museum.
Hard for we who were not there to fathom the sacrifice it took to secure our freedoms we enjoy!

"Over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded or went missing during the Battle of Normandy. This figure includes over 209,000Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 dead amongst the ground forces and a further 16,714 deaths amongst the Allied air forces."

Apparently the White House does not know what day it is.. they will be hosting the Denver Broncos today in honor of their Super Bowl win.....Apparently no one in Normandy to apologize to.

Sad indeed. Our great history put on the back burner again. Even sadder, is the fact that no one seems to care except those from the generation that still remember.

I watched a couple of excellent documentaries (Military Channel or History Channel) a couple of years ago about the landing and spent pretty much the whole time in tears. It was unfathomable what those guys went through, and obviously, not just at Normandy. Sometimes they show Victory at Sea marathons, too. Well worth watching. I was born in 1948 and remember a time when everyone's father was a veteran and we all learned what that meant. Now, hardly anyone remembers or cares, There are hardly any veterans in the government, and military service is considered something you do because there's something wrong with you. Our military is being systematically destroyed, and we're starting to pay the price. The least we can do is honor those who gave so much.

Please do NOT apologize if someone is offended. This is the biggest contributor to the mess America is in today. folks are too thinskinned and the rest of are afraid to "offend" them. I say, "Screw 'em." Some folks need to grow some skin and the others need to grow a pair of balls! LET THE CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY!

It's why they are/were the Greatest Generation!! :ohyea:

Not just D-Day, but living through the Great Depression and then WW II. The generation coming up now will never know how much they owe. And I fear we'll never be able to rise to that level of effort if/when confronted by a threat in the future.

They did pick the day as the day they announced Hillary as the presumptive Democratic nominee. 6/6/16, A day before the California primary. Great timing Dems
