Well as you have read I spent a pretty horrendous 16 days in hospital after having to have my bowel removed ( a Laparotomy) which was an emergency procedure.

I've now been back home for a week and getting a sore a$$ from all the sitting! The wound which is healing is around 10 inches long, from my navel
and heading south. The nurse who dressed it today said that it'll probably be another month :yikes: of very limited activity before it can be considered to have healed.

So here I am reading about all the preparations for SF 016 and wishing I was going to join you. I was all booked up too! So I'm a little rueful and fed up.
It's also been fairly sunny and warm out there and I'm sure that I can hear my F3-S whining to go out and play!!

I'm glad you're on the mend, Jeff. I hope that at least there's something to watch on the telly! :sour: This might be a good time to practice your isometric glute exercises. ;) I'll miss you at SF this year, but you should just concentrate on getting well and then enjoying your F3.

when i had my prostate surgery 19 years ago, i also was cut from my belly button all the way down to junior. it was a long time healing. it took me 3 months to return to work, and the scar would open up sometimes and start to leak clear fluid. when i went to the surgeon the first time it opened, he said it opened because it wanted to because it needed to drain. so in a way i know what your going through my friend. please feel better soon, and keep us informed as to how you are doing.

Geoff,
Try and look at it from this perspective:
If you take the time (and miss some fun in the next Month...) to heal completely; it will make you stronger, and better equipped for the rest of your future!

Please concentrate on getting yourself healed-up completely!

OJ, Have two close friends who went through what you're going through, both had to show me their tummy incision. It took a while, but they're back to their old selves now.

Hang in there and keep your spirits up!

P.s., Your updates are appreciated...

Sorry to hear this as I was looking forward to meeting you at Spyderfest, but I am glad that you are on the mend and there is next years event to look forward to!

On a positive note - you now have the time to give Bob D a run for his money on post counts. Maybe not total, but per day counts

It is good to have a site like SL to help pass some time when unable to get out and ride.

Hang in there OJ and John.

It has to be said that this is going to take a while....but I reckon that in six weeks I'll be able to ride without risking any repercussions.
I'll be able to drive my car in around a month. My dressings are being changed on a daily basis and the nurse says that the wound is healing nicely.
Yes I know that many of you enjoy my Merrie Englande series of photographs and they are set to continue...but as I have been
reminded: Baby steps!

Four years ago I had 10.5" of the lower Bowel removed with the same type of incision you described. As it turned out it was the best thing ever, should have had it done 8 or 9 years earlier. At 6 weeks I was able to start some activities (Spyder Riding) when 6 months passed I almost forgot that it even happened.

Good luck with your recovery, by mid summer you should be good as new.
