View Full Version : Where do you store your Spyder?

I should have thought about this a little more!

We have a garage that has my prize possession 2500 mile Camaro inside it as well as a few motorcycles. I can fit two motorcycles on either side of the car.

We have a parking space next to the garage. The garage is more of a barn in the back with a parking spot next to it. There is a large workshop and a few rooms in front of the area where the Camaro is located, but there is only a standard sized door and a wall, so I can't use that space as it stands.

I am thinking about:
1) renting a storage space (10 x 10?)
2) getting a shed to put in the parking spot
3) getting a vinyl shelter to put in the spot
4) renting someone's garage
5) heaven forbid, parking the Camaro in the spot and getting a shelter for it (if I am permitted by the town) and putting the Spyder in the garage

What do you guys think? Where do you keep your Spyder?
This is literally keeping me up right now :)

Mine just sits outside.. if it's going to be awhile between rides, I clean it up and use the BRP outdoor cover.

I rent a garage 10 minutes from home. No room at home with a small carport.

If you have room to store it up front why not put in a larger door ?
Spyder would be "home" and available at all times!

I had to get creative to get my :spyder2: in my garage. I park it sideways. By doing it this way I was able to fit two Harleys, my prized 66 Mustang and a 65 Corvair I an restoring into the garage.

I store mine in a mini storage nearby, having no garage at all. I keep a scooter (Piaggio MP3 500 ASR/ABS) on the street and can be at the mini storage in 5 minutes to take longer rydes

That's a neat idea: keeping an extra pair f wheels nearby, to transport you to where the fun REALLY starts! :2thumbs:

There's a wall in the way. If I didn't have the wall, I could fit ten Spyder in the rest of the space, maybe more. I'm not sure if the wall is a load bearing wall. Also, the area in front of the garage is higher and then goes back to floor level, so figure there's a four feet by twenty something plus room in the middle, a wall, and another two rooms in front. It's a big building, but I can only access the 1.5 car garage part to store vehicles.

We would be looking at some major construction (not that I haven't thought about it!)

My husband's Challenger is currently next to the house, so you can imagine the space issue. One of the cars would have to be parked on the street and it's not fair as it is that my Camaro gets to live inside.

We will figure it out. I can't deal with the idea that the Spyder is sitting outside right now uncovered.

We have a 28 foot cargo trailer the bikes go in the winter and in the spring the car sits out and the bike's have the garage. The dirt bikes have the trailer all summer so we can take off for a ride anytime. With 8 bike's we move them around a lot. dirt bikes get the shed in back yard during winter. Good luck with your storage Jim.

I keep mine in my garage, and my rarely driven Roush in the next stall. If I didn't have a garage, I would build me a 10x10 storage shed. I had my prize 87 LX 5.0 stollen back in 1994 when I got married and moved to Columbia, S.C.. I promised myself I would never again leave one of my toys outside. Even when we moved back to NC and were having our house built, I rented a garage space on the apartment grounds.

my garage is my woodworking shop so no vehicles inside. I keep mine outside in a driveway next to my fishing boat, and covered in an ultra guard cover. It's behind a privacy fence gate and has houses on 2 sides so it is never in the sun and rarely exposed to the weather.

Check out the link to the "Bike Barn" in the first response you got above from Bfromia. A few folks on the forum have mounted one of those on a wooden platform and say it works fairly well.

I have the room so in the garage. My wifes Mini and the spyder share the garage and I finally gave up the ghost and chucked out all the junk I was keeping for someday that may or may not come. You will figure it out but seems that how severe your weather is would dictate where you would want to keep it.

The :spyder2: and two motorcycles are in the Locked garage/shop. Yes, wood working shop. That's what covers are for. They have to be indoors---- Snowed last night:yikes:.

It depends on the Season....In Vt. in the winter it lives in the house ( sort of ). When I built it in 92 I had an 16 ft L x 8ft W ramp built at the rear of the building into the basement. I built an extension off the back to cover the ramp. Before I finished 2/3 of the basement I could bring all mine ( and friends toys ) down there. Then after the Home Theater was completed I built a 12' X 8' platform on the ramp.......but I built it so I can raise it up ( at one end )to gain full access to the working area of the basement............During the riding months the Spyder is in my 3 car garage.........Mike :bbq:

Walter, what size storage space did you need?

Spyders will need a minimum 10X10 storage unit. That is what mine went into over the winter.

Storing outside is the kiss of death for bikes. When i bought my first couple used bike i immediately disregarded anything that was stored outside and it was obvious which ones were. I would get something on site, no matter how close it is you will ride it more if its onsite. If your taking a 5 minute trip to the store your not going to go to a storage place to get the sypder kinda thing. You can rent storage containers fairly cheap. I can just fit my car, my yamaha and my RT in my garage without have to move any to get any of them out if you know what i mean. which means i have no room for more toys :(

I have my RT in a bike barn, I put down some pressure treated plywood and attached the Bike Barn to it. It works great and is east to get to and use. Also easy to take down in Winter if you want to store it someplace else.

No matter where you decide to store your Spyder, keeping the animals away should be a top priority. They like to hide under the covers on the seat. Mice and other small rodents will set up home in the most obscure areas, store food, chew wires, etc. This intrusion and damage can occur in less than 24 hours.

In Vermont ( Oct. 15 to April 1 during the winter) it is stored @ a dealership,( heated, under lock a key, insurance purposes) with the full cover on it, on a Battery tender.

During the riding season it is in my drive way with a full cover on it. Deanna

Do you have enough height in your garage to install a small lift, store the Camaro on the lift with bikes/Spyder underneath?

Judging by the responses above and my own prized 67 Mustang convertible, I'd say we might have to discuss removing the Camaro! Spyders just look better next to classic Mustangs!!!;)

I back mine into a stall in my horse barn and keep a half cover on it. 80' from the house, rubber flooring, steel barn that can be locked up, no windows or other means of forced entry unless they've got a torch.

My Camry hates my Spyder - it has been outside since the Spyder came home with me and took over its half of the garage.

Walter, what size storage space did you need?

For now I chose a 10' x 20' space that stores the Spyder and on some occasions two different scooters as well as some miscellaneous household goods. Works for me now. But be sure the entrance between drive and storage room is relatively smooth, some have quite the step up.

The Spyder is in my garage with the other bikes. The Camaro is outside for the first time. Ack.

Should I cover it to avoid wildlife, or is being in the garage sufficient?

I'm still going to explore other solutions since I want better for the Camaro. It's good it's not alive because it would be pretty annoyed right about now.

We have a 3 car garage. The cage is flanked by a Kendon trailer on one side, the other side (single stall) sits the Spyder and 4 motorcycles. The truck sits in the driveway. The bikes are in there all Tetris-like. Three in front, one beside ||| >-- . If you have room, a 10x10 shed is the minimum size that fits a Spyder.

We have a loft above the garage, so we would have to remove that. Interesting idea though!

I'm reluctant to cover a bike (Or any other toy!) in a garage: the "creepy-crawlies", and other varmints; just LOVE those dark secluded spots, and will take up residence quickly!

I was covering the bikes in the garage to keep the dust off, but I haven't had the covers on for a while. My bikes are dusty!! Ack. I'll have to clean them, no big deal.

We bought a half cover for the Spyder yesterday if we leave it out back for a few hours outside.

When we had our RV we put "Fresh Cab" pouches in it over the winter and saw no signs of rodents. After my wife opened the Spyder shed and saw a visitor scurry away, I put several bags in the shed and one under the Spyder and now we don't see any signs of rodents not even a pellet.
