Can someone provide info on the best avenue to install a GPS on my Spyder? I called a dealer and they quoted a price of $1300.00 for the parts and installation. That seems a bit steep. Any information is appreciated.

There are many many options for GPS. You can buy the dealer one, pricey as you noted. You can look into a non can am motorcycle model and secure it to the console in a bunch of different ways. There is the smartphone app route. I went with an iPad mini that I already had, added a bad elf GPS unit to it for $89 and bought the TomTom app for $19.99. Uses no data and also connects via Bluetooth to my helmet so I can hear the turn by turn if I desire. I have a freezer bag ready in case the weather turns bad.

As far as mounts go I really like mine from JT. [A sponsor on here] It puts it in a good spot above the dash.
It also provided a good spot for my magnetic Siriusxm antenna. win win.:firstplace:

why even mount it, just plug your phone into the sound system, or bluetooth to your helmet, and she will guide you wherever you want to go, all for free.just my thought.

1st picture is my view while riding. I'm 5'8". The temp guage is somewhat obstructed while riding but viewable. 3rd picture is my $40 Ram mount from Amazon. Really holds the phone nice. I screwed the device with small bolts and nuts to the bike. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o08_s00 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055PH0XA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00) I ordered both accessory items in the Amazon page. 2nd picture is how I screwed the suction cup to my dash. Our three wheelers have this side to side motion that made the GPS wobble on rougher roads. I made a simple black plastic brace in the upper left corner of my original post picture. The end result is my GPS is rock solid and does not move at all even on rough roads. 4th picture is a general side view of my dirty bike and garage. You would think with it being winter and having a heated garage I could find the time to detail my bike. I suspect a lot of riders are not comfortable with making holes in their bike for accessories. If I sell this bike the GPS and Ram mount would stay with the bike. Truthfully, of the many bikes I have sold with various cobble jobs to them, not one buyer has ever mention these types of alterations.

Same as a 2014 install using the BRP optional kit. It was not inexpensive, but does include all the mounts, wiring and stuff needed to install the GPS, plus included a lifetime map upgrade GPS.

The right side panels do need to be removed, the connections are just aft of the fuel tank and the audio jack is on the side of the fuel tank. The more difficult portion is routing the wires down from the handlebars. I almost recall, removing the let side upper panel and the headlight bezel, plus the right headlight to make it easier. Could be wrong though since it has been a while. Not a difficult install, more simply time and patience.

You are correct. The hardest part was getting the wires down thru the handlebar area

In early 2011 I produced a plan hereabouts which I'd used for my own GPS installation called "Mounting a Zumo Up High". It came with a photo step-by-step-how-to and was well received. It is still available on the DIY forum board, though by now it's about 5 pages back.

FWIW, I included the dealer installation of a Zumo 590 in the deal package for my 2014 RT-S. Yes, it was more expensive than other options but that's the way I wanted my new Spyder. I am very comfortable with it on the OEM mount for the Tri-Axis bars and the wiring run is inconspicuous and direct. See the picture

We have a special Can Am adapter that is very easy to mount, in addition this unit includes an FM transmiter that can transmit the music and GPS instructions into your sound system so no wirering is needed except for power.
