my bike purchased used didn't come with the GPS that's included when delivered new

the seller had misplaced it still in the box during a move

am I correct that it's a Zumo 660 with a BRP label

is the gps unit the same as any Zumo 660 I can purchase off the street and install on the mount bolted and wired to the handlebar (stem) that is already provided on my machine

I will buy a refurb unit if I know I can use it on the stock mount

thanx much

Yes 660 should work I am using a 665 (Harley) in the 660 mount and works..

I think BRP was offering the Zumo 590 by then.

nope 590 was on the 2015 but can be rewired if you want to mount one of those units.

It's a Zumo 660. The only difference from one purchased privately is the BRP pre-loaded software. It tells Garmen that the unit came with the Spyder, with free updates. Otherwise any Zumo 660 will work fine. Good luck.

When I bought my Spyder in Sept '14 I opted to wait until the 590 was available because it was newer technology. It was not available until Dec '14 which was not a problem but the wait for the mount for the Tri-Axis bars was seven months. I very much like the larger screen of the 590. Next farkle a Kradellock, http://www.kradellock.com/.

If you get a 660; make SURE that it's the LM (Lifetime Maps...) model.

Free updates...

checking price & availability of the 660, 665, 590 on ebay & Amazon, I found & bought a 660LM refurb (complete) on Amazon Warehouse for $262 with 2 day free (Prime) shipping and very liberal return policy.

the prices of the 665 and 590 are way more than double that if lucky enough to find a refurb or used in very good condition.

I think it will be good enough for my purpose. I've been using a 550 for over 7 years replacing the screen/digitizer when they would fail about every 3 years.

Thanx again... :D

I had a Kradelock on my 2011spyder and vstrom and loved it. I now have the 2015 with the 590 and would like to have the Kradellock but haven't sprung yet. It is a very nicely designed device and I highly recommend it!

1st thing to do do is update the map. Refurb units can sometimes have an extremely old map.

If you wish to have the Spyder dealer list like the GPS from BRP refer to this thread http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?64874-New-dealer-list-for-Garmin-GPS

If you want the Spyder vehicle icon. Download from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9zqe1BG3lbqeTY5UWlydVpsQ28/view?usp=sharing

FWIW, 2014 RTs.

We ordered the BRP option for the Garmin GPS. 660 with lifetime maps. Also came with the harness.

Should be the same except the vehicle will not be the BRP icon of the Syder and won't have the dealer list and ability to grab a dealer and enter it as a destination.

Billy Bovine may have said the same and possibly his links will add those features to a non BRP supplied 660lm unit.

I would without hesitation go for the refurbished unit at that price.

You may not get the carrying case. I do hope you have the plastic Garmin cradle cover and the rubber boot that covers the entire mount when no Garmin is installed.

As a tech tip, each time I mount the Garmin in the cradle I take the extra step and ensure the latch is secure and then grab the Garmin to ensure it will not jettison during a ride.

I have the 660 on my 2014 limited. It is the first motorcycle gps I have owned. It is no different than any other Garmin auto gps which I have used for years on motorcycles. It is difficult to see on bright days and to me is no better than the auto ones as far as being visible. It does have some waterproofing that seems to be better.

Try a glarestomper. I have a 5 inch tom-tom with this and it works great.

I tried one, and ended up with a similar design from RBNS hoods...
It's hard plastic; rather than just Ballistic nylon. It looks better!
