Littlebit and are are thinking about riding our spyders out to this event. I dont know if we are gonna enter. Nothing special about our rides except from being different that the other bikes out there.

Looking at the registration form:

http://mobilecarshow.com/regform2009.pdf

There is an award for Best Club Participation and Best in Show. If we have our local Alabama and Florida Spyders there ( should be at least 5 of us), we might have a chance. I dunno. Never entered one before. I do know that our two Spyders helped get my Parade entry get Best in Show this past Pensacola Christmas Parade.

So, who's in?

I'm supposed to teach martial arts at the Y in Navarre that Sat., but if there is a good response from the other locals, I can trade out and come along.

Martial Arts.... I knew I seen that word before. Sabunim. We say it in class with a reply Kamsahamnida

would be great to have a BIG Spyder turn out to this event. I think we have 6 or 7 Spyders in the area. Lets get together!

I just found 4 more spyder owners on the spyderryder website and invited them over here. Hope to maybe get them to come to the event too

bamaSpyder (from Foley, AL)
RoseMiller (from Lillian, AL)
Nbuchman (from Mobile, AL)
YNDCONSTRUCTION (from Mobile, AL)

If everyone goes thats a possibility of 14 Spyders at this event. That would be AWESOME!

Pretty sure that hollylmh will not be joining us as he said he and his wife were going over to Daytona for Bike Week. Hollylmh says he knows of four other Spyders in the Milton area but does not believe that they are on the website.

Originally I was looking at the Poker run but Carolyn is tending to the car show as am I. Too bad they are same day, there is no way to do both.:banghead:

I could give Iktome a quick wash but what class would we enter? I doubt that any of us have anything yet to compete with the full dressers in street and no way we could beat out the Wingers or others for largest club. :firstplace: So far all I have added are operational and comfort items and haven't even began to decorate the Tryke.:trike:

Guess we could just donate our money and enter as a special interest display only. Maybe we could try for a poster from CanAm or PMS to display with our parked group.:dontknow:

If we go to the show I want to spend my time filling up Memory Sticks and SD Cards with my cameras.

kalavera
02-12-2009, 05:06 PM
Definitely bringing both my Cameras out for this event. Plan on taking lots of pics; of the other vehicles too ;-)

Looks like we got a decent sized group going.

Updated the above list.

Did I read somewhere that TONI is coming? I sent a PM but hadnt heard back.

sabunim, do you know if you could get a hold of Hollylmh to find out if we can make contact with the other milton spyders and invite them out to this event?

Don't know if they are or not, just made some random thoughts about routes and meet-up points. They live just a few miles east of our farm just off US-90 in Alabama.

Just got a new HD video camera so am still learning it. I am thinking on one of the RAM mounts to put it on the bars.

well a few of us are gonna ride over from pensacola. I know the promoter's son and he said his dad is excited about a bunch of spyders coming out. I will call him tomorrow to find out about our status. If we dont compete, we could at least be set up among the other bikes to draw the crowd. If we do compete, I am checking to see if we can get a group rate.

i think I read somewhere about a plan.
meeting up with some at the I-10 and hwy 59 exit.

Pensacola, folks can meet up at the McDonalds on pine Forest Road and I-10. Then ride over to pick up some folks at I-10 and Hwy 59 then ride on into mobile. From the map, looks like I-10 west to I-65 north. West on Airpot Blvd, and we could take University Blvd to Grelot Road or Hillcrest Road to Grelot Road. The show is midways on Grelot Road between Hillcrest Road and University Blvd.

I have never organized a ride before. I dont ride in groups often. So maybe I shouldnt be the one to lead this ride.

What time does everyone want to get there? Show starts at 9am. Registration at 8am.

Ya dont have to stay for the whole thing. Littlebit and I were thinking about riding out to the beach in Biloxi afterwards. Depends on how we feel and the weather. I was thinking driving down the beach road on casino row might be kinda cool on the spyders.

The route sounds pretty good but we could probably turn more heads if we got off I-10 at the Bayway and went thru the Bankhead tunnel into downtown Mobile and drive straught up Hwy 90 to Azalea Rd and then to Cottage Hill Dr to University to Grelot Road. I grew up in Mobile and my Mom still lives there not too far from the show.

Let me know what you think - call me at 850 525 2859 and we can talk about it.

Talked to one of the promoters of this show, this evening. When his son told him, he was excited about the Spyders being there. He said we could enter if we wanted to (cruiser or street bike class is what he thought we might be in). He said we could just set up all our bikes together to show off. So, we enter if we want, otherwise, we get to show our spyder pride.

"Parking breaks off..." doesn't sound as cool as "Kickstands up..." but we don't have Kickstands.

>>>>of 8:00AM at the east end of the Bayway/Causway? It takes me about 25 min to get from Fairfield and Lillian (Pensacola House) to US-98 and Greek Cemetary (Farm) and about 45 from there to the Bayway. We will leave the farm about seven and should be there when you are ready to go. Will get on the interstate at AL-59 westbound.

Will run over to PMS today and see if Jim has come up with a poster to put behind our windscreen to tout the Spyder.

Wish I could make the gathering tonight but better take care of our selves.

Coyote (Shunkmanitu) is talking about meeting him at the east end of the Bayway. That is the Daphne exit just before the long bridge. If we meet there and ryde across the Bayway - we can get off at the Downtown Mobile via the Bankhead Tunnel exit.

From Pine Forest Rd exit - 7 miles to Fla Line then about 37 more to Daphne so I would say to be sure of our times - departing the McDonald's no later than 7:AM. 45 minutes to Daphne.

After everyone says their Hello's and meets everyone - we can head to Mobile - Grelot Rd should take about 20 -25 minutes baring any delays by people gawking at the :spyder:entourage.

So if we leave Daphne by 8:20 AM we should be at the show about 9AM.

If this looks okay we can plan on these times and plan on meeting at the McDonald's between 6:45 - 7:00AM.

I sent you a PM several weeks ago. Saturday 3/7 is my birthday but right now we plan to go (1 Spyder & 1 Kawa Concors). That is weather permitting - no rain and not freezing. Since we live in Seminole we could ride to Robertsdale and meet up with some others there, just tell me where & when.

As I understand, there is no charge to attend, but $20 to register, is that correct? However I don't plan to register, just attend so I can meet some of the folks on this forum over there.

He's still waiting for his approval to post so I will post for him.

Hey Folks,

First, sorry for the long post, but since this seems to be a new show to yall, I thought I'd throw some cents in. I help run the show mentioned and I run the website for the show. I happened to see some hits from this post in the site stats and have quietly been lurking along, hope that's ok. Mainly if anyone had any unanswered questions.

I hope some of yall can make it, just for me to see one of these rides in person, never seen or heard of one before this. Everybody that comes and supports the show is appreciated, and the proceeds from the show benefit a great cause, the United Methodist Childrens Home.

The Home provides support for abandoned children, unfortunate teen mothers, etc. I've had pleasure in meeting those who run the home, as well as many of the children/teens being supported by the home, I'd donate more than a day out of my life anytime to help.

With that, I'll try to give you a heads up but DONT quote ME, things like to change at the last minute. Below is a map of the church lot (outdated by Google, updated by me). The area in black in the Main Lot is where the bikers typically setup. We usually only have a handful of the same bikes show up (10 +/-), this is where they like.

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/mobilebadboy/showlot.jpg

BUT, there is NO real designated area. Most people like to park together -- friends, groups, clubs, etc. That's why you fill out information when you register to identify HOW you want to be judged, not where you're located to be judged. Then people are kind of free to park wherever. We learned that the hard way. So there are no guaranteed spots.

Some show up at day break, not too many, but a few, to secure a spot. Real traffic starts flowing in around 7-8, and it continues throughout the day. The Main Lot is usually close to full by around 10-11 (with judging starting at 11). If you want a full area in the 2nd lot, use the email below (before Saturday), I'll make sure it happens. We make sure both lots get attention, but of course, people tend to go to the Main Lot.

If you want to be recognized as a club, please make that known when registering. If there's no official club name, I don't care. Come up with one, Spyder Lovers, etc, just make it [consistently] known when you register (if you are waiting til the day of).

If there are any questions, email me at shawn at mobilecarshow.com.

I'll more than likely be guiding you in, I'll be the 6'5", 'bald' guy with glasses. Can't miss me.

Shawn

Gulf Coast Florida/Alabama Spyders first ride and gathering was a success.

Littlebit and I, met with wbbrn1952 at McDonalds on pine forest road a little after 7am. We then met up with TONI and her husband in Alabama and continued over to the car show.

Bill (wwbrn1952) did an excellent job setting up the route.
The ride was great.
We set up at an adjacent lot to the main lot but you could not miss us as you came to the show.
We had a total of 5 Spyders at the event.
TONS of people taking pics and asking questions.
Will post the pics I took later.

It was great meeting all of you. Littlebit and I had a great day with all of you.
We look forward to an active riding season
