It's too early to worry.

There will be at least three other host hotels. The respective "hosts" just haven't announced yet.

We have loads of time yet, before the "Infestations" start forming... :D
... But I'll be leaving from the Catskill Mountain region of New York State...
I'll probably take Route 80 out to Pittsburgh...
Then switch over to Route 70; which gets taken to St. Louis...
And finally: a quick trip down Route 44!
( I think!)

Is it "no rooms available" or no rooms at that rate or no rooms for the event before 4/28? I am coming a day early & they had to make 2 reservations - one for the event dates & one for the early nights - & got the event rate for both.

What day are you all planning on traveling through St Louis? I will be in the St. Louis area for a couple of days before visiting with friends. I'll be in within a 10 minute drive of 141 and I44 that be a good place to meet up if possible. Last year I met up with other Spyder Riders there it was great.

Travel plans aren't yet set in concrete...
I would normally hope to leave early on Monday, and ride out to Columbus or Springfield in Ohio.
Tuesday would be the final day of travel down to Springfield...
But I don't know who I'll be travelling with yet, or what their preferences are... :dontknow:

I'm thinking of going to the big event this year but had a couple questions for some of the veterans here. Have you run into any issues with salt on roads this time of year traveling from the northeast? I'm assuming there is ample to do for new folks and opportunity to meet and greet with people.
Thanks in advance for any info and advice.

Cruzr Joe

Can't help with the roads because we come up from Arkansas, there's more to do than you can do in the allotted time, and if you stay at one of the host hotels, you will meet more good folks than you will be able to remember. These are very friendly and comfortable events.

I believe I spoke with Natasha, and i am arriving on 4/27 departing 5/1. Single king room. When I called she said that they had no rooms left and I said online it showed rooms available. She said those were the Jacuzzi rooms and the rate was higher. On my emailed receipt it shows the room at $91.99 plus $12.97 per night for taxes. So I figured first time at spyderfest I'll spoil myself with the jacuzzi.:D

Originally the hotel offered to move me from a jacuzzi room to a regular one but I figured why not stay in the Jacuzzi room? It's my main vacation for the year after all.

I'm going to be in the St. Louis area the weekend before SpyderFest staying at a friends house. Right now I'm planning on trailering my bike to St. Louis. My schedule is very flexible. Right now my hotel reservation in Springfield starts on Monday but I can change my plan but I'd like to be in Springfield by Wednesday evening. A good meeting point for me would be at I44 and 141. I met up with some other Spyder riders there last year from Illinois and it worked out great. A group ride from there down would be absolutely fantastic. More the merrier.

Thanks. I will have to see what day I will get in. I can't leave until Monday from the DC area and this will be my first long distant trip. Going to be high adventure and I have a lot of planning to do before then. The Army is sending me to a school for 10 weeks in January so I will only have about 6 weeks of Spyder piloting to plan my trip. Also, I sweet talked the Best Western lady on the phone and she took my number and said I would be the first one she calls if a room comes open. That's my charming personality...good thing she has no idea what I look like :roflblack:

You know, you may very well be correct :sour:

I thought about taking it with me, but it is in Norfolk, VA. The weather is so hit or miss there in the winter I can't risk not having a ride. I plan to make it home some weekends, so maybe I can get some riding in before the end of April. The problem is it has been so nice here, I have a feeling the Man upstairs has some significant snow due in for us during the New Year.

Don't overthink this.

I bought my first Spyder in April, 2013. Prior to that I may have had 10 miles under my belt on a Spyder. One week later I left for Spyderfest and rode 500 miles to Springfield, 450 miles in the rain. A very cold rain!

I'm on my second Spyder and over 33,000 miles.

Get on it and go. You'll be just fine.

You are probably correct. Being an Army planner, it is in my DNA to try and think of ever possible contingency and plan for it. Come the last week of April I will hop on my Spyder and hit the open road. I am looking forward to it. I have driven hundreds of thousands of miles moving all over the U.S. This will be my first trip not in the confines of an automobile.

( I think!)

the 70/79 interchange is at Washington pa. i'am 40 miles south of there in Morgantown wv. if by chance I get to go, not sure about it yet, maybe I can try and keep up with you guys!:D someone will have to run as the White Knight!:yikes:

Yep! I tried to book by phone last week and there was nothing available until the 28th. even
Kev and Joanie couldn't swing it for me...So I'm over on the other side of the road with Charlyne
and Mark at the Lamplighter (which seems to be reputed as less than wonderful!) Ah well...so be it.

Of course if anyone wants to stay at the Lamplighter I'd be happy to swap....

Just took a quick look at the map and heading south to the 70/79 interchange doesn't look like it would add much time or mile wise to my route so that would be doable.

Right now I have a room at the best western from 4/27 through 4/30 leaving Sunday am. I'm thinking of going out a day earlier and arrive Tuesday. If there were any interest, I would look to add on day earlier to my hotel, or find another on nearby.

Once we firm up dates we can get our rooms secured.......

Bob and I were discussing routes; originally we thought about going straight across PA on I80 and stopping the first night in Ohio. We could def meet up with people coming down from further north.

We also discussed taking the southern route across Tennessee; I took that route last year coming home and agree there are some very pretty areas. Not sure about going through Nashville though; there was a lot of construction there May 2015 and from the looks of it it was questionable whether they'd be done by May 2016.

I'm real flexible.

I'm not set on going through Nashville either. That's just the way Google showed. I am open to other routes along I-40. This will be my first long distance trip so I am in "student" mode for this. I do know that the trip south through VA and eastern TN is some beautiful traveling with great places to stop along the way.

Either way, I will tag along on the route most traveled by other Ryder's. I won't be a nuisance, but will be more comfortable being with other seasoned Ryders.

I don't know if it would be worthwhile starting a new thread for this or not, possibly "From the Northeast to Spyderfest"

Anyway, I did some google map scenarios and here is the breakdown so far for me. I'm leaving from Rochester and there are presently three routes I have heard mentioned.

1. From Rochester, NY to Columbus, OH overnight, then to Springfield on second day. This route is 15 hours 9 minutes and 1025 miles and mostly expressway I imagine.

2. From Rochester, NY to the Washington,PA area (Route 70/79 Interchange best I can tell from Google) then to Columbus, OH overnight, then to Springfield the second day. This route is 16 hours 27 minutes and 1094 miles and mostly expressway, but less than above, I imagine.

3. From Rochester, NY through Morgantown, WV area stay overnight somewhere near Charleston, WV or so, then second day to Springfield. This route is 18 hours 23 min and 1231 miles. I don't know what type of scenery this would be and the miles listed do not plan to head south to Tennessee so that would also add to the distance.

I am open to any suggestions, and am leaning towards a day earlier for traveling. I think I'd like to leave my place Monday for a Tuesday arrival in Springfield regardless of the route.

Bob Denman

I think that as the time for travel shrinks a bit more; we will put together a thread in the "Rides & Events" Section.

Bear in mind brentc that your talking about 8 to 9 hours in the saddle each day, plus time to stop for gas, bio breaks, etc.

Not sure how much long-distance riding you've done but that's a lot. I did two days out last year (NJ to eastern KY, eastern KY to Springfield) and I was wiped by the time I got there.

Took three days going home and it was much easier to handle.

Bob Denman
12-19-2015, 06:37 PM
When I did it; we ran two 600 mile days, each way... You can figure about 14 hours of total time in and around the bike each of those days...
With fuel stops every 90 miles or so (for the 998s); you could shorten the days by making your food and fuel stops as efficient as possible...
At one point, we had 23 bikes in our convoy; that's a lot of cats to herd down the road...

Better make sure my will is up to date.

Of course, I could make a killing renting out my Jacuzzi by the hour.

Got booked at the Econo-lodge. They seem to still have rooms for the event.

New tires installed on trailer and bearings packed with grease...that was the last of my 'to-do' maintenance items.

Heading out tomorrow!

Looking forward to another great year.

Ugh!

Unexpected out of state family houseguests arriving Wednesday till Saturday.... Cancelled room but plan to be down Friday and/or Saturday. Had a king bed so maybe someone can snag it. I know you all will be having a great time with each other, and if not, The Mayor & Sheriff Cruzr Joe will have many solutions.

Cruzr, thanks for all your dedication to fun & frolic!

On a happier note...Let's Go Bluuuues!!

Unless the unexpected houseguests are rich and have you in their will, you should come to SF, anyway! After all it's only once a year. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Stopped by the BW Coach House to pick up some charging cables that some friends of ours had left while there for Spyderfest. Where is everybody? ;) We even saw Hotglue and Flamingo Babe, I think, turning onto Glenstone from the Lamplighter. They must have kept the party going all week!

My better half wasn't able to make it for Spyderfest, so we were back in the area a week later on our way to get her the new F3-T that I bought while I was in Missouri for Spyderfest. It was a bit surreal being back a week later, but she is so happy with her new F3-T! We're now a two F3 family!

O dear, if they are still there I don't think that's a good thing.....I spoke with " glue " on Sun. 5/1 before I went riding and He said Char was having issues with Her ST and the BRP techs were having a look at it .......now a week later and they are still in Springfield :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: .............I hope it's because they want to be.......Mike

I think there's another thread (or maybe it was on FB) about Charlyne trading her ST in on a new F3T.

I think there's another thread (or maybe it was on FB) about Charlyne trading her ST in on a new F3T.

I was wondering about that... I thought she was riding behind Hot Glue, but she wasn't on her white ST, so it didn't immediately register that it was her.
