I have a 2015 RT with about 1300 miles on it. At the end of the ride there is a smell like rubber, or at lest that is what I think it smells like. I asked the deal and he said it was a coating on the exhaust. I still worry if it is the belt, which to me looks too tight. Any thoughts?

I do remember some type of coating that smelled on my 14 but I don't remember it smelling like rubber.

1300 miles isn't a whole lot... It could very well be stuff burning off from the exhaust system still.
...Or even the belt still getting worn-in, and used to where it's got to do it's thing...

My 2015 RT with 1100 miles had smell of burning rubber. In inspecting bike, the belt was rubbing up against rear metal sprocket - misaligned Also the muffler was tilted inward and the belt was being heated from that. Rubber residue Was present

Mine has 4000 miles on it and it has always had that smell and it seems to be coming from the belt even though the belt has the correct tension. I don't know, maybe too many bugs on the windscreen?:dontknow:

If you think of it as the "New Car Smell" for motorcycles; it makes it pretty easy to accept. nojoke
After all; did you ever spend any time trying out the smells under the hood of a new car?

I have over 9K and still have that smell..Believe its the tire that smells like rubber..Not sure why..Notice it more after HWY rides..No problems yet :yikes:

I only noticed that smell the first 600 miles and it was gone. Smelled like it was coming from exhaust system.
Now nothing smells out of the ordinary. I would have your belt checked for alignment and also make sure you are not riding the brakes, Do not rest your foot on brake pedal.

With well over 3,000 miles mine always had the smell after riding, until today. I installed the cat bypass pipe and noticed the smell was not there today. It always smelled like Burnt rubber.

I think I figured out what it was. There is a rubber mount at the very top of the cat. I bet the cat gets so hot it makes the rubber outgas and makes that smell.

Great Info...I have to check that to be sure about the rubber smell..I always thought it was the rear tire but had doubts on my theory..

Thank you, I will have to check the cat the next time I get to take it out. With the change in the weather up here, that may not be for awhile.
