I shudder whenever I think about the fact that as a 12 year old, I and my 10 year old brother, brought in the winter firewood. We cut dead standing trees with a chain saw, brought them to the wood shed, and cut them into blocks with this buzz saw. I think the realization that one slip and we could easily kill ourselves is what kept us free of accidents. I would never have let my son do that.
