I have searched a number of posts regarding the Spyder being hard on the oil, even Amsoil. I was wondering if anyone has tried mixing 4 qts of 10W40 with 1 qt of 20W50 Amsoil to try to keep the oil in grade longer?

I am planning on getting a Blackstone report on Amsoil 10W40 used for about 4500 miles from the oil change coming up. I am also considering doing the 4 and 1 mix with Amsoil and compare the results when I change oil next year. I just don't want the oil to be a little too thick in the colder weather since it looks like the BRP oil is a 5W40.

I think you have it wrong. The 1330 engine does not use any oil. The 998 engine does.

:agree: The 1330s don't appear to use much oil at all; if any!
But if this is about the oils viscosity degrading during usage; you should probably go back and look through the threads that deal only with "Oil Test Reports"

My own VERY in-expert opinion, is the BRP would never want us using an oil that wasn't capable of doing the job... they would have busted engine warranty work coming out of their ears! nojoke

I have seen that the oils tested have all started breaking down at around 4,000/5,000 miles in engines using the same oil in the motor, transmisdion and clutch. But you should note that the 998cc engine has been upgraded to a oil change recommendation of 4,600 miles and the 1330cc has been set at 9,000miles. This would make one believe the oil lasts longer in the new ACE engine. Keep us posted on your findings...
