Caught a group of at least 4 deer coming left to right at about 2100 hours , the 2nd one in the group caught my left fender and shot me in the ditch but i got out of it after I was sliding around in the grass and gravel for 50 yards.

Got lucky, hopefully everyone else does

it was 8 years today that deer in the road put me in a wheelchair, spyder got me back on the road, almost all owners are the reason the events like spyderfest are the best time.http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=116950&stc=1http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=116947&stc=1http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=116946&stc=1http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=116949&stc=1http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=116948&stc=1

Hi Seth,
Sorry to hear that you've had to post this...
But it's always good to know that you're around and out there...
No damage to the LF suspension? The Elka looked to be intact, and not leaking.
Here's to hoping that the repairs are accomplished quickly, and with a minimum of hassle!

Glad you made it out ok. That's one of my biggest fears is hitting a deer going down I-70 at night.

Deer are little more than large rats. They are a nuisance to many and a danger to some. Hunting seasons should be longer and bag limits should be higher. Excuse the rant but the animal "rights" groups are the cause of the deer population explosion for the most part. I must ask: Did the deer that ran into your Spyder meet his end?

Wow! Glad you are ok first of all. Very sorry for what happened to you in the past but it's great to see that the Spyder was able to get you back on the road.

This brings up a good question for those in high deer population areas and tools to help avoid them. I live in Tx now but grew up in southern Michigan where the over population was a MAJOR hazard. Whenever I visit family up north today it seems to have gotten worse, especially at dusk and into the evening when they are bedding down. I've seen deer whistles advertised for cars over the years and wondered if they actually worked. Maybe there are other options out there but something to possible think about for Spyder riders.

Very glad you are ok. God bless.

Hello Seth I am glad you are OK I was looking at some of your post last night in which you were shooting a 50caliber rifle and your brother was shooting the 50 and brought down a doe. My name is Ric Jost and we chatted awhile back at the Minneapolis Spinal Cord Center I ask you about your bike and you said I could try it out well that didnt work out but after seeing your bike I went out and bought one an 2013 limited I have traded that bike in and now have an F3s Im just waiting for the isci handbrake. Also the VA did provide me with the AirHawk R cushion If you were not abel to get one you can pm me and I will see what we can do.hopefully this wasnt a hijack of a thread. ric

I also am thankful you are ok Setho. We have quit riding after dark in southern Illinois because of the deer. We have a hunting cabin on the farm and hunters come from several states to hunt a trophy. They do a lot of damage. I hit one last weak in my company truck.

Glad to hear your ok. It could have been much worse. As stated by others, the Spyder can be repaired. It seems the deer are everywhere these days.

This chart confirms that. It's from the Forest Service. You gotta wonder how high that number is now, 13 years after the last data point.

nah, that is what I do for a living, the county south of me does not patrol the north end, it was off the road and dying.

I was more concerned with making it back home.

Its running good, just missing some fender and a air intake, I got to dig a part of it out of the engine compartment, I think I got some plastic on the header pipe.

Buggy, I am with you. Why in the world, with the dear population explosion, do they always seem to set up those "Deer Crossing" sign so close to major roads and highways. Don't they realize they are just inviting trouble. When those deer cross at those busy areas, they are bound to get hit by oncoming vehicles. Hey, I gotta an idea, considering the demographics of Spyder owners, maybe some of us tha are retired (not me), could become deer crossing guards and escort the little guys across the road!:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

i, like everyone else, am glad you are ok and came out with only minimal spyder damage and no personal damage. This is something totally unfamiliar to me. The fact you hit twice and were seriously injured in one is kind of startling to me. The one thing i am pretty sure of around here is not running into a deer. Even in up in the mountains we really dont have any around L.A. makes me double think where i would want to ride my spyder or especially my bike!

For those who may not be aware, which I wasn't until just a few years ago, deer and other such wildlife are most active right at dusk. If you see a deer be on the lookout for others. They are not solitary animals so you'll likely encounter at least two if not more, or none. Very seldom will there be just one around, although that may be all you see at a particular moment.
