When Moog and a few others invented the electronic synthesizer many musicians really did not know what to do with it (many still don't get it, IMO)

But there where some who embraced it quickly and made some cutting edge tunes ; Edger Winter Group and Herbie Hancock come to mind.

Mike Pinder used the Mellotron back in the 60s.

Just watched a documentary on Netflix called I Dream of Wires. Really good show about the rise, fall and rise of the synthesizer.
