You're up early. Never heard of this or seen on the road before. I took 10 hour Can Am training course and the instructor did stress to all of that placing your helmet on the ground beside the bike takes away the chance of it falling on the ground and causing damage to it ie. a crack that ruins the DOT rating. Happened to a student of his and made them get another helmet before continuing with the course.

I did a quick search and found different variations of this. Helmet directly in front, helmet behind, helmet on the ground, Handkerchief tied to the left handlebar, Someone lieing on the ground next to the bike, bikers chick flashing her T***... :yikes: Bike lieing on its side...

I have heard this in several occasions. Don't know about universal...cause back home you leave your helmet anywhere but your head and it will be stolen along with the bike...:roflblack: so may depend on where you are....:dontknow:

I've heard of it, but it's not commonly practiced here in Arizona because so many riders don't wear helmets.

In Canada, this is taught in the Ministry of Transportation motorcycle manual, which is studied to prepare for the motorcycle licence test.
