Ok, I want one! Not long after my Spyder search began, I came across these photos. Believe it or not, I actually spoke with this gentleman after doing a photo search. (doubt I could do that again) Yep, I may have freaked him out just a bit by calling (:hun: who what? :D) but he was a super nice guy. He told me that he pulled this rig coast to coast with no issues. My only worries are that the tongue weight is about 75 pounds on this trailer. Cam Am spec says 40 I believe. I may be able to lighten the T/W by adding a rear receiver and bike rack but that will push the overall weight up. What do you think?

:D They sure are a cute little rig; aren't they? :2thumbs:
I'd be nervous about the overall weight, as well as the tongue weight on them...
As much as I DON'T want to rain on your Parade; BRP did set those limits for a reason
Under ideal circumstances; I'm sure that it'll pull okay... What if something unexpected happens, and you find yourself knee-deep in "Big eyes, and Brown Shorts"?? :yikes:

Sorry...:opps:

Met a guy here in Canada who was pulling one of these with a front wheel trike. He also had pulled many miles (km) without any problem. If you worry about what ifs to much you would never ride a motorcycle or a spyder. Just saying.

packing and loading the trailer can adjust some of the weight issues. The manufacturers recommondations will be on the safer side so you have wiggle room. Your call...if it don't fit in my pocket it don't go with me...:roflblack::roflblack: I travel light, sleep just enough, and arrive early...but that looks like a very nice rig for the stop along the way ryde...:2thumbs:

I think about getting a camper now and then, usually a fold out kind. But then I think how much I like air conditioning when I sleep in the summer and how much even a small AC weighs. Then I decide that hotels aren't so bad.

I know I have excedded the tounge weight on my trailer at times , depending what we have in the ice chest and how we pack it. The photo you show ,the trailer has a storage box on the front , I would just watch what you pack in that to keep the front weight down. I have pulled our Aspen thousands of miles in all kinds of conditions and always felt comfortable, some of the naysayers most likly have never pulled a trailer, use your own best common sence. If I was traveling by myself I think I would prefer a teardrop, just not enough room for two of us.

Looking on the internet, it says that trailer weight 650 pounds. That exceeds the pull weight of a Spyder by 250 pounds!

I saw a trailer similar to the one in the over in Alfred, Me. last week. It was by a camp on Shaker Pond. I didn't stop because I already have a tent trailer and a Harbor Freight trailer that I haul. Should of stopped to look at it in case someone on SL might interested.:dontknow:

Look at the Twist TR7 teardrop. The total weight is within the spyders weight range. The tongue weight is to high but when i called the mfg about it they said it was no problem to move the axle forward however much is needed to get about a 30 pound tongue weight.

Great info everyone! I didn't know about the Twist brand, I may have to look into it. Because, I went to the Little Guy site for a weight check on the 4x7 Deuce and it appears to be missing from the lineup.

I just talked with them in April and could order one no prob. Hope it's not another case of Ya Snooze Ya Lose! I tend to do that often.:cus:

Pat.......I did look, they list the DRY weight as 440 lbs...........So that means it's already 40lbs over and You can probably move the axel enough to change the tongue weight without being concerned. But the pop-up tent option trl.may be your best bet....jmho.................Mike

Called the Little Guy dealership that I spoke with before. They said Little Guy stopped production of the 4x7 a couple of months ago. He was going to call the factory and see if they would or could make another one.

Maybe a Twist of fate? ;)

Wow, how things can change on ya in a relative flash. In about April-ish I called Little Guy to ask a few questions on the Deuce 4x7. No indication at all that they were ceasing production of that model.
Kim K. Left me a message today (while I was out riding my :f_spider::yes:) that the factory cannot build another 4x7. The you snooze you lose bug bit me good!:gaah: I'll do a little more investigating but I'll also give Twist Trailer a call this week. That TR7 may just fit the bill.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

This is just me. I think the weight limit is due to wheel bearings and swing arm bearings. 100 hp plus is enough to pull a trailer. Other problem would be with the slipper clutch on SE5 and SE6 units. If one does not keep the clutch locked up above 4000 rpms this would spell big trouble. I have seen a SE5 unit all burned up due to running with a trailer below 4000 rpm. Just saying. Good luck ya'll, I never could stand to have someone tell me I can not do something.

Yeah, I dont like people telling me I cant do something sometimes also. I will spend alot of money repairing something just to prove I could do it. Just shows I'm not the smartest person around. But then again, I do remember my mom and dad telling me that when I was younger.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::b anghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::b anghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Here are two more options, I love the MyPod but it,s the tounge weight is to heavy , but the Tear Drop is ultra light and is a very good option. One of our club members brought it to one of the meetings to show and tell.

Seems like they're not quite ready for primetime.:helpsmilie:

On the other hand, Micro-Lite seems to be a solid company that understands our market pretty well.

I thought I'd toss this one out there, Jim at Gunlake Paddlesports who is a distributor for Micro-Lite has one or two TWIST TR 7 trailers at a discounted rate. Seems the dealership hasn't picked up the units so they were offered up at a decent price. PS..Nothing in it for me, just a great company to work with so far.

I ran across this trailer today. It was an experimental in the UK, meant to be towed behind a mobility scooter, so it should be light enough to tow behind a Spyder. My only concern would be the size of the wheels.

 Doesn't CruzrJoe tow one of those, to use as an Outhouse? :roflblack:

That thing IS tiny. You're right though; the wheels and tires might be the weak link in the chain.

EDIT: I see that they have it limited to a 5 mph towing speed... :gaah:

Are they going to move the axle forward a little to reduce the tongue weight a little?

Are they going to move the axle forward a little to reduce the tongue weight a little?

They will if I ask but it's not what they feel is the best option. They recommend loading any equipment behind the axle to get the desired tongue weight. They are worried that if they move the axle, the trailer could be prone to tail wagging. I kind of believe BRP built in a safety factor with the TW number, talking 14 pounds over is all. I ate that much in beef the last two days.:yikes: :D
