Mounting a second antenna on a RT-S

I've got a 2015 RT-S, and am looking to mount a second antenna for my 2m handheld radio.

I've looked into the second "blank plug" on the trunk, but it doesn't look like there's enough space to put a NMO mounting base. (plus, the angles are really, really bad for a vertical antenna.) I've got a Comet CA-2x4SRNMO antenna. (2m/70cm/frs)

Has anyone done something like this, and have an idea, or picture or two or three to share?

I haven't looked at the specs on that antenna, but if it is a Magnetic mount it needs an area of metal under it to load correctly or else the SWR may be out of sight. A center fed dipole mounted vertically would not need the metal ground plane, also a "J Pole " could be used as it doesn't need a ground plane. Your antenna on the HT should work fine unless it's a "rubber duck". I just use my HT with a Diamond antenna strapped to my upper arm and it works fine particularly if you are using a repeater. I kind of always wanted to mount a second FM antenna on my bike... the reception is so poor, that I figured it sure couldn't hurt it much. :shocked:
I guess that all I'd need is some sort of way to plug two antennas into one lead for them... :dontknow:

I need a space to put a NMO mounting base. It's not magnetic -- There's nothing that it would stick to on a RT-S.

I have a ground strap to run to the chassis to help with the ground plane, I just need a better idea of a place where I could mount an NMO antenna base...

It falls right in line with the existing antenna and looks like it belongs there. The base was a nmo trunk lip antenna. Removed the trunk lip bracket and installed it under the nmo mount to act as a giant fender washer so the plastic would not crack under the mount. It has been there for 6 months and no issues. Make sure you choose an antenna that does not need a ground plane, the one shown does not need a ground plane.

I just finished mounting my J&M CB on my 2014 RTS and used the antenna from J&M and it
works great! I will try to post pictures later.
