New owner of 2014 RTS

:yes: We took the plunge and I have been lurking on the forum for tips. We are new to motorcycles, but long time Canam ATV riders. Our ATV ride is a 2010 800R Max. The spyder is taking some getting used to as I am used to responsiveness of my 800 Max and the fun opening up the throttle with the roar of the vtwin. The spyder is much more refined and even though the cornering is similar to an atv I am still finding it a bit awkward. Strange since I have been riding atvs pretty hard for 20 years.

Our youngest boy graduated this year and the spyder is our "empty nest" activity. As motorcycle Dave said when I ordered Sena headsets and the custom dongle cable, "Learn the word BOAT" Bring out another 1000" Seems to be the case with helmets, communications, and all sorts of other farkle!

Anyway, big thank you for all the tips from you experienced owners to set us greenhorns on the right path!

Good to know we are helping out...congrats on the new ryde..:2thumbs: somewhere between 300/500 miles and you will be a pro. There are some good tips on the do's and do nots thread that can help. Main thing is these machines are great trackers so relax that grip...enjoy..!! :ohyea::ohyea:

Take your time learning your Spyder. It'll all come to you quicker than you think. Be sure to check out motorcycle safety training courses offered by Idaho Star. Of the total 79 fatalities, 58 were identified as rider error and 1 is questionable. This means up to 59 out of 79 were due to rider error. Thirteen of the fatalities are without question the fault of another vehicle operator. This analysis does not include detailed information on serious injuries, levels of injury (A, B, C) or other involved crashes.

I'm guessing since you are new to motorcycles you do not have a m/c endorsement on your driver's licenses. If that is the case you will have to pass a skills test or take a Star course in order to get it. You do need the m/c endorsement to ride your Spyder in Idaho. http://idahostar.org/resources/endorsement
