I took the morning off, to get up to my dealer, and have the new Bumpskid installed...
Now; I almost puked, when I saw the first scene...
But things got better as progress started being made...

They also installed my Stebel Nautilus under the Tupperware; I hope that I never have to use it!

You are going to like the Bumpskid--so far-- I am using mine just for looks and lights. Linda keeps saying how neat it is and how she wants one for her 2011.

Bob,

Pix are not coming through. It's happened to me before. Sometimes your browser cache "shows" your own posts to you differently than what everybody else is seeing. (The forum software can sometimes be a little funky in that regard.) In that case it can be helpful to bypass your browser cache when reloading the page, so that you can see what everyone else is seeing.

Usually CTL + "R", or CTL + F5 will do that on most browsers. Some browsers, like Chrome, require you to also hold down the shift key with the other two. When you get the right key combination, you will see the screen reload. Give that a shot and see if it makes a difference in what you see.

They put it where the "Meep-Meep" horn was... It took a little bit of "modificating", to get it to fit in there...
(I didn't ask...)

where did they mount the horn, and did they remove the frunk to do it My Spyder is getting a new "Bad Boy" horn as we speak. Great minds think alike. ;)

My dealer always removes the frunk when they do ANY work on the front end of the Spyder - no matter what they are doing. I asked them why they do that and they said they have removed and installed so many of them that is just second nature to do that. They say they can do it in a matter of minutes, making anything else they do in the area less time consuming.

Bob Denman

They explained that one as, "The bike wasn't here... The person adding bikes to the website, loaded it in by mistake. It has since been removed. :D

More than likely you need to get them to 30K-75K size, I think that they are 1.5M now. If you don't have software to do it email them to me and I'll whip it out.

So I bit the bullet and ordered my bumpskid and it came two days later ! :ohyea:

I am not sure how I will get it put on yet; me/friend/hire it out.

But I have a question:

Mine came with four fairly large plastic brackets............. this adds a little confusion as with all the posts I have read there has been NO comment about installing these brackets. ????? :yikes: In addition...the photos on the instructions that came with the BSkid look like an older model Spyder. The procedures are not numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. It also says for the ST-limited you may need to remove the entire front fascia.

So.....whatz up with the brackets. It would sure be nice here to have some clear photos of an install (here on this site) on the proper model Spyder. Did you install the brackets ? Were you able to get them in without any fascia removal ? I was just surprised as there has been no comment about them.

Thanks for any assistance !

Sorry, I can't answer the bracket question.

This is my 2nd bump skid and my first lighted one. I was surprised to find a huge groove routered into it. I thought I had a manufacturing error and the groove should have been on the side opposite the counter-sunk screw holes. I called and found out that the groove is routered in there for more lights because "most people who get the lighted one, want more lights". I wasn't planning on adding more lights.... so to me the big old groove is just a place for me to catch the skid on rocks or scoop up samples of road kill :barf:

I couldn't find any mention of it on SpyderPops website and if I'd had an option to get an extra groove vs smooth bottom, I would have chosen the smooth bottom.

Any ideas on what I can fill the groove with? Should I just leave it alone and hope it doesn't catch on rocks or roadkill? We haven't installed the bumpskid yet because of this.

Since I've got no experience with the F-3 Bumpskid; I'd say to leave the groove as it is, and just be aware of your riding conditions...

So you have variations and I have brackets no one has ever discussed. The photos depict an older mdl. This is a great product...it would be helpful though to include model specific instructions with model specific photos. I am fairly mechanically inclined and a former draftsman/designer... so I am not inept here. For me the difficulty will be; getting the Spyder up high enough, figuring out where these brackets all go and then my physical limitations of the process. I am also not confident my dealer can do this either.

It may come to that. But when you dont even know what you are looking at under the Spyder (as it is new, have not raised it up yet, or got underneath it) it would not do much good at this stage to talk to him. The photos sent with the skid looks like it is from an older model. The reason I am posting; NO ONE has discussed these additional brackets and I would like to hear from someone that installed one on a 2014 ST-limited....so I know what to expect. I am not knocking anyone but the instructions should be model specific...that would be a little helpful. Thanks !

I tried to take a picture that showed the depth of the groove, but gave up. It's approx 1/4" deep.

I think that you're safe to leave them as is. If you DID catch something with them; the slippery material would probably slide you right up an over...
