I live 60 miles due west of Richmond in Buckingham County VA and
with 6500 miles on my Spyder I have yet to cross paths with one
locally in my area.

Most of my riding is mostly west of Richmond Blue Ridge Parkway
Shenandoah Valley, more rural areas.

I used to ride with a local group of HD but a few viewed the Spyder as not
part of the group theme and in so many words said if I could not ride my
HD not to come,so I let them keep their theme.

I honestly felt that the Spyder was getting to much attention and that was
really the issue.

I'd like to start a Spyder group in my area or be part of one in yours
but with so few scattered so far apart it's hard to do.

If you want to get together sometime for a ride send me a PM..

I have run into a few people down at the Colonial Hts store who don't know SpyderLovers exists! I'm in southwest Virginia in Norton. I took the dmv test on my spyder in November. I only had to complete two portions of the test. I had to do the sudden brake and the swerve. According to the dmv lady those are the only two requirements for now for a trike. Good luck to you.:2thumbs:

Hi everyone, I'm Ken and I have not done much riding yet, only have permit and I just went for a short one today. I love the ES-5 and the way it shifts, hope it keeps riding good. However I'm signed up for a riders course 27-29 March. After which I will be doing a lot of riding. There is a ride in mid-April in Fredericksburg that I will be riding in. Here is the 09 Motorcycle events web site. So if any of you Va. riders want to get together for a ride and talk, about a possible club or just to ride I'm game. http://www.lightningcustoms.com/motorcycleevents.html

Hi--
I'm a Va. ryder new to the site, but have had my Spyder since Sept. Have seen 2 other ryders in this area. Would LOVE to get together and ryde! I live in the Brandermill area--unfortunately working only weekends, so my ryde times are during the week. Keep me posted on getting something going--I'm definitely interested

Located right here in Midlothian off route 360 on Spring Run Road. Can pull off Friday rides most weeks based on workload. Unforunately this weekend is calling for rain. I plan on installing the forward riding brackets from No Magic Neon this weekend. Need to catch up and get a Friday ride in.

I don't mine taking a Friday off to ride, I will be in riding class 3-5 April. I've seen only one other rider on 95 near Fredericksburg but, he had exited 95 when I saw him and it was too late for me to exit safely. Are you interested in Rolling Thunder (May) in DC? I will be going, after all it was one of the reasons I got the Spyder. ken

Thanks for replying, I thought maybe no one was interested in riding. Understand weekends are not in the plans for you and I'm interested in riding during the week. Fridays sound like a good time to ride, as someone else has expressed interest in riding on Fridays. It's good to know that we are a possible beginning for a good gathering of Va. Spyder Riders. Check out my earlier post (web site) if you haven't already. There are some good rallies out there. I will be riding in one next month and also the Rolling Thunder (DC) in May. I will be riding tomorrow to Fredericksburg to go to Logans (steak house) in Spotslyvania Mall (Va. 3). I will be there around 5:30pm to attend a gathering for a young Marine that has decided to leave Military life. I'm a retired Marine but, works on the Marine Base. How far are you from Fredericksburg/Stafford area as I've never heard of Brandermill? Ken welcome

Ken I too am a former Marine and a three year survivor of a stage 3 brain tumor. This my main reason I am riding the :spyder2: besides the fact it is just plain fun. Funny Spydermer Brandermill is just on the other side of route 360 from where I live. I will be looking at the calendar and see if the DC Rolling Thunder works. I'm sure I can pull it off. Paul

Hello all!
Just got my 08 SM5 last week, looking for others to ride with in area. The dealer I purchased from said they only knew of 5 or 6 they have sold here in Central VA. That is not to say there are not more in the area! I did see one in C'ville a few months ago, so I know there are other riders around! Hit me with message and we will go from there. Still working on license, they tell me I need to have a 2 wheeler to take the test at DMV, not so sure of that:dontknow:. May go one day when I have the time to kill and see what happens!
Happy riding,

My red baby is already giving me problems, all started after 600 (534) mile check-up. Sunday with wife's first ride while returning from DC. Spyder went into limp mode (no warnings flashing) pulled over turned off the engine and tried several time to get it out of 5th gear. Nothing, wife freaking out, wants to know what's wrong, as if I know. Five mins later computer resets Spyder showing no ill effects and gets us home fine. Today, Spyder want shift out of first gear and I repeat same. Spyder runs good and gets me home. Since the check-up I have this issue, and brakes driving me nuts making noise when applied at slow speeds. As if that's not enough I smell gas when sitting on her while riding but, no leaks detected. Friday I will take her to the dealer. I haven't even made my first payment. I know this seems like the worst but, it's a blessing to me. I want all the crazy stuff to happen now and not later when I'm on a long trip somewhere in another state. This will ruin my rides coming up and I was so excited about meeting with my Va. riders in Richmond. I will have to catch the next one. Enjoy if the weather permits. Ken :banghead:

Sorry to hear this. Many others on this site have experienced the same issue and it seems to be all related to a relay. My brakes did some squealing for some time but appears that has gone away. Best of luck on Friday hopefully we can meet on the next ride.

The weather co-operated and that was good. As you can tell my excitement is still high. Early wake up this morning, I just had to see how things went. Did the three of you get a chance to ride together?
As for me the day wasn't a total lost, yesterday. A friend of mind that has been a riding partner because I had only a learners permit. Reminded me that the 30 days was Friday. So I put off the trip to the shop (making that this morning) and we drove to Fredericksburg DMV. After a long wait I finally got to do the road test. The lady told me I would have to do it using the two wheel course and perform the same manuvers. I told her that there is no way possible and that I would do my best. We all know what happened there. After failing to make the short cone turns and u-turn, she said that I had failed the test. I told her that someone is going to have to use some common sense here. I will say that she felt bad about having to make me try it in the first place. Long story made shorter, common sense prevailed and I only had to perform the swerve and braking. I'm now legally free to ride without escort, not that I always obeyed that law. But, it feels great to have that M. Thank goodness the spyder waited until after the test to go into limp mode.
I like the silver and black thing you three got going there, pics of you all are nice. I also like the paint job of the steer skull. Well it's time to go munch on some fiber (breakfast) and start the day off right. Take care all. Ken

Looks like one of the locks on the bags may need some adjusting so the top will remain locked. Hope it's that simple because I really want to see how it all looks. I will remain in touch. I'am having the same problems. Gas smell, noisey brakes, and e-brake. I was told by dealer if I wanted them fixed I would have to leave bike. It's 90 miles each way. They wouldn't order parts with out bike at lot till fix. I'am still riding it? Gas smell is when it's hot. E-brake broke first day on way home. They fixed it. and three weeks later was out again. we ride out of Roanoke VA. would injoy hearing from others. We love the spyder and riding it. On way to up state New York. Over the 4TH

That's a nice present for your 42nd, we are going to have to set up a meet as I see there are more and more Spyders springing up throughout Northern Va. If you already have a motorcycle endorsement you are set. I will have to check Harpers Ferry out, it sounds like a nice ride.

Im the new guy on the block, My wife had my SE5 delivered to the house yesterday for my 42nd Birthday! Today -- I was off to Harpers Ferry on it.

I see that some of you post information about a road test -- I have a Motorcycle endorsement -- must I do anything else!

Im looking forward to meeting and riding with others! -- Harpers Ferry was a nice ride -- through the wine country to get there.

I've had mine since November and have seen a few riding around the "beach" area.:dontknow: I ride up to Pierce's BBQ (Lightfoot) several times a month.

What's the latest on Rolling Thunder, I met one of the guys that was part of the GW parkway ride. He was at the safety show put on by the military. It is an annual event now and was held in the north parking lot of the Pentagon. They put on a nice show about safety and had some pro-riders doing their thing. Stunt riding and jumping it was special, no very special. Those guys are super with their skills. I only had my iphone with me and may post some video. It want do them justice, but it will show their skills.:2thumbs:

Hello Cal777777, it's good to finally see some Va. riders do some posting. I checked and Henry is about 4 1/2 hours from me. I do like to ride and have been out your way last year. I was involved in the Grand Tour of Va. However the new governor killed the project. Hoping to see them do something this year. The wife and I will be going to Cuba for the Spyderfest. I'm going to be riding in this years Rolling Thunder, 9/11 ride to all three sites, Maggie Valley, and considering Roanoke Bike Fest next month. These are just some of my planned rides for the season.

Hi Bandwagon

I'm sorry to be so long answering you. It has been tough catching up from taking last week off. If you are ever in our area again, give me a call so maybe we can get together for a ride. We also plan to go Cuba and Maggie Valley. We are undecided on the New York Ride. We want to do a Maine ride sometime this summer. I also would like to get together with Va riders. The people in Fl told me that they get together almost every week for about a 200 mi. ride. That would be nice, since we have some of the best riding roads in the US.
