Ramping a Spyder

Greetings everyone,

I need to raise my Spyder to install highway pegs. Has anyone used conventional car ramps to accomplish this task?

Yep. Just used ramps to install my SpyderPops skid plate. I had my wife stand on some bracing in front of the ramps to keep them in place, due to the fact that they wanted to slide on the garage floor as I drove onto them.

Other than that, no worries. If I had some rubber mats or such to put the ramps on, they probably wouldn't have needed any further attention.

Just curious - why do you feel the need to ramp the Spyder for highway pegs? Just the convenience of having it a bit higher?

I use three car ramps to get the Spyder up and level. Turn all three ramps so you back up onto them. Makes working on it very easy. I bolted a piece of 4X4 to the back of the one for the rear wheel just in case I went too far.

A pair of car wheel ramps was my first tool farkle for the garage when I bought my Spyder;used them too for the bump skid and missing belt guard installation. Am glad to hear Grandpot's experience with three and backing up onto them; will make changing oil easier.

Regarding the question "why do you need to raise the Spyder to install pegs" I purchased pegs from ISCI (ads on SPYDERLOVERS) and the brackets are somewhat like a sling under the Spyder. According to the instructions having a bit more room to work underneath is necessary.

I'd strongly suggest (this time anyway) going to somebody like Harbor Freight or Northern Equipment and buying one of the $100 - $130 ATV lifts. Then with three jack stands you can hold her up and ramps won't be in your way getting under it.

I tried an aluminum ATV lift from Sears and found it to be too "wiggley", if there is such a word. Go with the steel ones. Mine is just like the one currently on Northern's website, Model T64017. It's stable, slides right under my RT, and the Spyder is well balanced when up in the air.

Curious... How do you lift it with that ATV lift? Is there room enough to approach the RT from the side and center the lift under the bottom frame rail?

I use sears 2 piece auto ramps. Once the spyder is up the incline part comes off.

I have an ST and I put Lamonster HB on and jacked it up with a motorcycle jack and placed jack stands under the arms that connect the front wheels and under the rider pegs as recommended by Lamonster. I removed the plastic under panels and left them off the bike.

I come in from the right side and place the left side arm of the lift directly under the bracket welded to the frame that holds the front of the CAT. The right side arm then contacts the frame proper. Once up in the air, I place jack stands up front under the lower ball joint as close to the inside of the tires as I can get. Since I have a BRP hitch, the third jack stand goes under the hitch.

I use my car ramps all the time when I'm working on my Spyder, they work great!

Go to HF online and pull down the local add. I was on there yesterday and there is a 20% coupon there. Just make sure you read the coupon fine print. Sometimes they limit them to not being able to use them on certain items.

If all else fails you can go to the store and they have the fliers up front with the coupons.

Thanks for the info! I grabbed a pic of the 20% coupon on my phone and stopped by HF last. I was able to pick the jack up for $85 out the door. It's a pretty nice one, especially for the money!
