I just bought my first Spyder last week, 2014 RT and perusing the owner manual I saw that the torque on the front wheel nuts was 77 lb ft and that seemed reasonable, but the rear axle nut called for 155 to 177 lb ft. Is the latter figure a typo or is it really a whopping 155 to 177 lb ft??? and if its not a typo, what happens to the bearings when squeezed with such loving force?

Another question. Where can I find a shop manual?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Andy

Welcome Andy. We debated the rear torque value a while back as my husband thought it was ridiculously high. He had our dealer ask if it was a typo and was told it was not. He will not torque mine that high, he set it at 95 instead.

You can get online service manuals from a number of sources. Google can am spyder manuals and you will get a number of sources. I got mine from Midwest Manuals - Green Manuals.

There are spacers in the axel that put all that pressure on the inner race of the bearing to keep it from tyrning
the bearing and outer race are what turn
I still think that is too high and mine are at 100 with no problems

I bought my manuals at www.brpmanuals.com. $28.50 included owners manual, shop manual and flat rate manual. All on PFD so you can put it on your tablet and/or print the pages you want when you are doing service.
Well indexed, also.

Thanks for the responses, I will torque mine to 95flbs and even that is kinda high, I dont think I had anything that called for over 80 flbs on my 1800 during routine maintenance stuff, but taking the engine out and putting it back together had some higher numbers. looks like the rear axle bolt is pretty large diameter and thats probably the reason for the higher torque value.
Thanks for the responses and helpful hints.

My 2011 service manual says 96 for the axel nut.
