View Full Version : Trunk Space

Am I the only one severely disappointed in the 6.5 Gal of trunk space?

The RS has 12 Gal according to the website... I can barely fit my modular helmet in there with anything else, in fact I've broken the helmet while forcing the trunk shut before.

What is the point of a 6.5 gallon trunk? Just a place to stick your phone? :P

Seriously the reduced trunk space will take some getting use to for those of us spoiled by RT space over the years

I'm thinking more like in The President's Analyst in which the phone company was going to take over the world. Only now it would be Apple!! :yikes:

With my RSS I knew I could go to the grocery store, buy anything that fits in the hand basket, and I would be able to fit it in the storage compartment.... As much as I was disappointed by a lack of a new RSS, I'm leaning towards the F3-S at the moment and this is a huge bummer.... it all of a sudden loses a lot of the practicality that my RSS had :(

Would it be possible for someone with access to one of these machines to post a pic of the storage area(s)? For those that say that I have already seen the storage areas, I did mean OPEN, of course! :D

I'm wondering if someone like Givi will make a mounting kit for their top box & side cases to fit the F3. That would make for a lot more carrying capacity than what I'm seeing from BRP. Then there is always Corbin with a high dollar swoopy looking set. The aftermarket will probably have something available not too long after the F3s are on the road.

Doesn't anyone have a pic of the storage compartments on the F-3 or are they just not willing to share?? :dontknow: :D
We folks out here at the end of the Pony Express Trail won't be seeing one any time soon! :(

Why do you think you haven't seen a picture of it yet? For the exact reason you are asking. They know what the compromises are and the longer you don't have to dwell on them the better.

I see a lot of interesting aspects of the F3, but the small trunk is a big compromise for sure.

I would say it's unlikely. Open face will probably go in though. No chance with my flip-front!!
But I'll do what all bikers have done through the years....lock it to the bike or take it with me.

Looks to me like maybe a full face helmet might be able to fit in there, or in my case two half (shorty style) helmets. Very little else though. I'd have to see it in person to get a better idea of it's dimensions (length, width & height).

It appears to be about the same space as the Slingshot has behind its seats - really helmet storage. Also, like the SS, there's probably enough room to carry your "work stuff", to use it as a commuter - which is the primary use for my RT these days. Just forget about taking it shopping...

That would only be useful if it were beer, or single malt, rather than water..... unless you used it on your Texas farm to water the cows???

If you use it to water the livestock; their cowbells might just nick up the Tupperware's finish! :yikes:

I'd say the F3 was not designed for us over the road travelers. To me it looks like the muscle car type bike to cruise the streets with. You only need space for a light jacket.

The F3 is what you make it.

Still have my Springer which has been called a 'Bar Hopper' by many. Put a T-Bag on the sissy bar, pillow strapped to it for lumbar support and pegs on the crash bars. Have ridden her from Washington State to Key West in Lazy-Boy comfort.

Yazz - you had a sissy bar, crash guard, and the right pieces to go on them - you need all that stuff for the F3 too - then, like your springer, she'll go where ever you point her..

Two giant radiators to keep it cool.

Thanks, I kept reading thru the threads in here and finally found a pic of one showing the side-mounted radiators. Definitely a different design, mounting them side-ways. I couldn't see any electric fans, I presume there must be at least 1 though right? Otherwise it'd overheat sitting at a stop light for any length of time.

This F3 is definitely a different beastie than any other Spyder, with the exposed engine and all it doesn't look like a "Spyder" to me really but that's just my tastes I guess. :dontknow:

Regards!

- Michael
