What is a rear wheel hugger?

Its a fender, very close to the tire. It can stop stuff from being flung back under the bike.

A close tolerance fender that mounts on the swingarm. Comes in a variety of design and manufacturers, but they normally mount in the front of the rear wheel. Some aerodynamic properties, but also offers great protection to the shock, drive components, ect., by capturing debris from tire...I also like the look.

MRB I see you also removed the belt guard. Don't you worry about getting rocks in your belt? :dontknow: Looks better and easer to check belt adjustment though.

If you check the web site http://spyderryders.net.au (http://spyderryders.net.au/) you will see it says -"(If you try this be careful of the exposed belt without the belt guard. A small stone caught between the belt and sprocket can be expensive - it has happened! Steve is working on a custom belt guard now- will post details later.
Martin.)"
This is Steve's bike -I certainly would not operate without a belt guard.

Someone needs to make a fender that starts near the shock and comes up over the top of the tire but stops before the tail light and hugs the tire.

Even the inexpensive 150 cc Chinese scooter I purchased for my wife has an "inner fender" that prevents the splatter mess that is the norm for the Spyder.

Maybe a fender that comes to a point with rounded corners.
Just an idea

Ya but I hope the one he comes out with will not have that pointed end. Or more than 1-model, I'd rather have something more practical, rounded. In other words more functional in rainy weather; If it is to protect or keep the underside from dirt and grime. Also I feel that sharp point is dangerious.

Hey everyone . I sent in that photo of the rear fender on that pro street bike as an idea. It could be some what different. I just have a thing for cool stuff and think out of the box. Thats what made me buy the SPYDER.

I heard from the guys at Corbin that they were trying to do exactly what you guys are asking for, but had no luck. I guess when there is a passenger on the back that rear tire comes REAL close to the undertail when you ride.

Can't be any closer that the Belt guard...they must not be molding a belt guard into the hugger design with plans of mounting it to the swing arm. There is no reason they can't do this, but I can't afford anything corbin makes anyways.

If you want a belt guard, SpyderPops has them. If you do a search you will find many threads on this item. How to the home page here, find SpyderPops in the center section, click there, select your model and then belt guard.

Voila!

Blast from the past. I see some of these every now and again, and wonder how they are found? I doubt it was the search function.

In any case, regarding the hugger, there was a site sponsor that made a rear fender for the GS/RS that looked pretty good. The site sponsor also made side bags, and a trunk that actually looked like they belonged on the spyder, like they were form fitted. They were streamlined, and painted to the original 3 colors. I can't remember their name. What I do remember is that the screw holes around the license plate used to crack (I think).

They are still on board as a site sponsor. My only complaint with them was slow shipping when I ordered the seat, fairings, and rear trunks. The quality of the products in 08 and 09 was good. I never had any customer issues with them.

Recently, customer service seems to be lacking. :dontknow:

That looks like it's might be made by Vertika, but the video was made in '13. With the RS no longer being made, that may be a problem. You can always ask if they still have some...
