If I go missing; you can bet that I'll be found under here...
The concrete porch on the "back" of our house had been deteriorating for years, and the time finally came to tear it out, and replace it.
Of course; a rotting sill-plate was uncovered...
She doesn't deal well with change... I'm not sure if I can keep avoiding the inevitable! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_1.gif

Wish me luck!!!

She will be like mine. I recently replaced the deck on the back of my house. She wasn't happy during construction but she absolutely loves the end result. I wish you luck.

Wood and concrete don't seem to get along. Are you using a pro to replace it?

Bob Denman

Yes! The only thing that I'm allowed to do... is walk by it without commenting!!

Just make sure they put a barrier between the new sill and the concrete.

Reminds me of the project to replace a few rotting boards on the deck of my last home.

I ended up dismantling the whole thing, and replacing everything with new before it was over.

Wish you all the luck with the project, the missus and the workers... Fixed quite a few in Conn and upstate NY. The most fun was the deck built above the freeze line which would rise in the winter and jam the door but worked fine in the summer...:roflblack: Good luck..!!

:agree: . . . concrete wicks moisture right into the wood . . . which attracts all sorts of wood-eating critters, from molds to carpenter ants . . . and concrete porches seem to ALWAYS settle . . . so much weight and no one ever seems to put deep enough or big enough footers! :banghead:
