I'm planning on buying my first Spyder RS and I hear about overheating problems and other issues, should I buy a 2013 or a 2014 and an extended warrenty or should I wait till the 2015's come out?
Thank You, RD2WK

:welcome:I would buy 2014 JMHO. Some 2013 have overheating issues.

Are you looking for a SM5 or a SE5?

2013 RS and RSS don't have the heat problems that the ST and RT S have but still not perfect. I know mine gets HOT on the left side , go with the 14 or see what the 15s bring

when the 15s come out the rebates for the 14s will be out

Out of the 2013 & 2014 I would opt for the 2014, that should save you having any chance with heat issues, but it maybe worth waiting to see what the 2015 models have to offer.

If you are willing to wait for a 2015, I would grab a 2014 around the time they come out and save a chunk of money.

You'll still have a new bike, won't have to worry about "possible" issues w the 2013, and save enough money to do a few mods to personalize it to your liking.

Choices... they can drive us mad at times!
2013, versus 2014 RS???
The biggest difference between them: the additional air inlet scoops on the 2014.
Some folks have even been able to get BRP to supply the updated body panels.
Why not try to see if your dealer can get you the new panels, AND the rebates on the 2013? :dontknow:
That could be some serious coin, back in your pockets!

Alternatively you get a 2013 with the nice discount and get the dealer to fit the 2014 body panels with the new air scoops

Lamont posted the part details in this thread:
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?69646-Part-numbers-for-air-scoop-kit-RS-ST-2013-amp-prior&highlight=Lamonster

Someone there mentioned the parts were $675 from their dealer so your still getting a good deal on the rebate and the dealer would probably fit them with no labour charge as part of the deal.

:agree: Unless you can find a REALLY good deal on a 2013 now, you'll be able to pick up a 2014 at a nice discount in about six weeks when the new models are announced, if BRP follows their past rebate practices. Also, that's when demos go on sale. September is a good month to buy a Spyder.

:yikes:....JMHO here.....But because of what happened with the discounting of the 2013's and the up-roar from owners etc..............don't be surprised if there isn't any heavy dis-counting of any left-over 2014 1330 ACE models .............because they are so far superior than any other Spyder made by BRP so far, I think the 998 engine is going to dis-appear quickly from their line-up...................The 998 is a maintenance nightmare compared to the ACE engine ......only the dealers make the Big bucks on it , not BRP.......well we will see eventually ..........Mikeguyver

There are alot of nice used ones around with low miles and some still under warranty. Spyders as in most vehicles drop in value right away.

I didnt think there were many changes from 13 to 14 with the RS?

Nope. Just the body panels. I got our 2013 RS and RSS for $4000 under sticker prices and we have no heat issues in Texas weather. Good luck with your decision. :ani29:

X2. Why ever buy any vehicle or spyder new? Buy one a year old used and reap major discounts, inherit years worth of included warranty, and lose minimal value when you drive it home (as opposed to when you buy new and drive it off the lot = ouch).

Unless money is of no concern to you of course. Then obviously buy new because who cares haha.

A difficult call indeed. There is a lot of conflicting advice--but it is all good--IMO.

Me, 2014 or higher. There should be some deals out there once the 2015 hit the streets.

I would say no to 2013 and get a 2014 due to the extra air intakes it keep everything cooler and 2014 have higher resale value in years to come. BRP & the dealers are dumping the 2013 due to heat problems. That's IMHO.
