I'm reading about shifting points and MPG results. I have a 2014 RTse6 with only about 800 miles on it. My first tank was 29.9,second 31.5 third 29.9 fourth 29.9. I must be doing something wrong. I read posts of 35 to 40 mpg. Anyone have any suggestions, I cant keep being a gas guzzler.

I usually shift at about 2200-2500 RPMs. It gets me between 37 and 40 MPG. I also keep it in ECO mode.

Hi, I experienced around 30-32 MPG for the first break-in miles....about 1500 miles. Then it started to get in the high 30's. Best I have so far is 42.6 MPG and have consistently been between 39 - 42 MPG (when riding 2 up under 60 mph). Interstate driving is something else. If you go above 60 MPH...you will suck the gas down and you'll be back in the low 30's at 75-80 MPH.

Last weekend we filled up twice on a Saturday's ride of 300 miles -- 42.3 MPG first fill, 41.6 MPG second fill. All riding 2 up and on back roads with lots of stops and slower speeds. I can't stop smiling - our 2014 RT Limited is an AWESOME machine! :D:D:D:D

About 6000 miles on our 2014 RT and love every mile!

I think you are still in break-in and remember your shift points are much lower with the triple. You should see improvements like I did.

you don't need to be measuring mileage till after your first service. Break in periods are never good judges of fuel consumption. It will get better as you get more miles...

I have a '14 RT SE6 with 2500 miles on it; my mileage always varies from 29 mpg (in strong headwinds on Interstate 15 to Vegas in that crazy fast traffic) to a nice 38.1 mpg on a 150 mile trip home on Hwy 101 from Simi Valley to Santa Barbara going about 65 mph (slow traffic on the freeway that day).

My average is 32-35 mpg with lots of mixed driving on the freeway and back country roads. My hubby told me not to worry about the mpg, just enjoy driving my new wheels ;)

Just have 2700 miles on the clock and my last tank was 42mpg. D/n get over 60mph,mostly between 45-55mph on county back roads and solo rider,so I am slightly impressed at this time. Real test will be august trip w/wife and trailer to deadwood,S.D.,will post after we get back.LATER!!:ohyea:

Like you my mileage was in the low thirtys and like you was thinking How come I don't get the great mileage others are reporting. That all changed after I had about 2000 miles on it. After that it jump up and with 9000 miles on it I get in the upper 30's to low 40's. My best was 44 mpg in Colorado and 42 here at home.
Like JLSpyder2012 stated once you get into the higher speeds the milage will drop fast - into the low 30's or worst. For me as long as I stay under 65 I do well.
Hang in there and get some mileage on it :2thumbs:

Results are going to vary from one rider and one :ani29: compared to another.

My results: First tank 38, next few tanks 39, and last three tanks 40 mpg. I am liking the fact that the mpg seem to be on an upward trend. We are talking about 5000 miles on the odometer now.

I always drive my :spyder2: the same. No jackrabbit or high speed starts. Mostly drive posted + five. Always fill it to the same level each time. I use 90 octane--the highest available here. Also note that over 60 uses a tad more gas.

My shift points: I now shift between 2500 and 3000 rpms--mostly in the 2750 range. I like the sound of the engine at that magic point.

Bob D. and I have an ongoing discussion. He shifts a bit lower than I do. I tried his method and did find about a half mile per gallon improvement. I just like the feel of the :ani29: at the range I choose.

Eco Mode: I don't like it. I find the wait for the green arrow to be distracting. Did I save a bit on gas--yes--but not enough to make me use it. (ooooooooooooohhhhhh! another chance to rant). I would rather have the electric frunk release switch instead of Eco Mode. :roflblack::roflblack:

First, to second, to third; I shift at just about 2,000 rpm.
Fourth, fifth and sixth get pulled at usually no more than 2,500 rpm. That's about as low as the bike will permit the upshift while not being in "ECO".
Results:
2716.5 miles
69 gallsons of fuel
39.4 mpg. :D

the faster you drive the less gas milege, keep it under 60mph and you get good gas milege and dont drag race ever time you take off, thet is just how things work.:chat:

:agree:
A couple of years' ago; I was watching "Top Gear, and they tested some sort of Mercedes/McLaren supercar...
It was fast all right...
But it'd go through a tank of fuel in just 17 minutes, under full power! :yikes:

I usually shift somewhere between 2500 and 3000. I have about 1400 miles on my RT. Last tank got 39.4, riding 2-up, going up and down mountains on nice, curvy roads :D

I'm gonna try Bob's method now...

It's probably best that you find whatever style works for you...
I nromally work out better as the BAD example to NOT follow... :D
