2012 RT Front Wheel Bearing

Our 2012 Spyder RT-S recently developed a loud squalling noise from the left front wheel. The cause of the noise turned out to be a defective front wheel bearing. I've attached a couple of photos of the defective bearing, which seems to have blown seals on both sides of the bearing. Our warranty covered the bearing replacement, thankfully. I thought I'd share what I learned about this particular bearing, just in case anyone ever needs to replace one, which isn't covered by warranty.

The front wheel bearing, Can Am part number 293350040, turned out to be a NSK 30BWD07, made in the US. Using the NSK number, I found a list of cross-references from other manufacturers:

SKF - BA2B633313C
FAG - 529891AB


Also, according to this post on a Can Am ATV forum, All Balls Racing sells the same NSK 30BWD07 bearing as their part number 25-1516, for around $25, versus the Can Am price of $75:

Oops, I should have included that info with my original post. :opps:

The bearing started howling around 14,000 miles. Thankfully, our Spyder's handling was not affected. It took a while for the dealer to confirm the bearing was bad, because it only made a lot of noise, when the weather was really, really hot! When my husband first rode our Spyder to the dealer, to get it repaired, the bearing wasn't making any noise, because he went there early in the morning. Once a service tech took it out for a ride in the afternoon, the noise was pretty obvious.

Guess we all need to get them looked at ?? 29k on our 12RT was thinking it would be rear bearings needed replaced first

I would suggest changing the rear bearings at each rear tire change... nojoke
