My shift from 1st to 2nd isn't as smooth as the rest. In fact, there is a slight clunk. Is this common? Does anyone else have this issue?

Thanks in advance!

What RPM are you shifting at?

try shifting at a higher RPM should help.

on how your shifting. Asuming its an Se5 if you let up on the gas when shifting it will. If your rpms are to low it will. If your oil level is off it could. Now if it didn't before and just started to it may be something else. You should shift around 5,000 rpms and stay on the throttle. Hope thats all it is...

It's an SE5. I'm shifting around 5000 rpm, usually between 24 and 30 mph. Just had oil change at dealer and I stay on the throttle. It's not horrible. It's just not seamless like the rest of the gears.

not that familiar with the se5's but it is the longer shift going past neutral to second. Others may know..!! :dontknow:

Shift up at 5,000 shift down at 3,800. Maintain steady throttle both up and down. It should be smooth as silk. If you let off the throttle even a little bit you will get a clunk. The computer handles the shifting more smoothly than any human can.

you said the shop just changed your oil, will they seem to ad too much oil and that could be bad too much will end up in your airbox and might be causing your shift clunk,i alwas need to drain out about 8 t0 10 ozs after the shop changes my oil.thats all i can say that might help you.:chat:

Thanks for the info. Seems odd that it's only 1st to 2nd though. All the rest are very smooth.

:agree: My thought as well...
But I'd double-check the oil level... it wouldn't be the first time that a dealer got it wrong.

The 1st to 2nd shift is the most picky. If you search you'll see this has come up before. If I run the RPMs up I don't have the "lag" happen on the shift..but if I'm just slowly moving up in speed it'll lag and pause on the shift. It's just something the computer is doing on that shift.

If dogs are so smart; how come they can't open their own jars of Ketchup? :dontknow:

Tigrrs don't like huny.
Dogs don't like cats-up.

Dogs like chicken.
Tigrrs like Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin sometimes.

I've been shifting a bit higher (30+ mph). That seems to smooth it out a little.
