View Full Version : Ratings on dealers. How are they done??

As the title says, how are 'Platinum, Gold, Silver' awarded. I have a dealer near me that was, although always very very nice, always making mistakes on motorcycle jobs for me. They are a Platinum dealer for Can-am. Does that mean they do well on :ani29:s?

I kinda asked the same question earlier this year; here's the thread link

It does not seem to matter. A particular designation does not seem to indicate 100% that you are going to find a good one.

We have mentioned sales #'s of Spyders, Inventory levels kept, # of certified mechanics on board, etc. Seems that this also varies.

Currently, for me, it seems to bring on more questions than answers.

I think the "ratings" are done with smoke and mirrors . . . pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. It appears to me that it has a lot more to do with sales of BRP products than customer service.

touched on things. The rating is not based on what a customer would want it to be.

yea, if you get your bike back and there is no smoke, and the mirrors stay on than they are good

I have spoken to my dealer, Midwest Sports Center in Farmington, MO, and I think they have to do a lot more than just sales. I know that customer ratings of the dealer to BRP can have a significant affect. That being said I would highly recommend my dealer. Service Second to none in my opinion. I have seen them do service on bikes purchased elsewhere because the Spyder owner couldnt get a service from their local dealer in a timely fashion. My dealer does it's very best to get your service done while you wait.

If you want the best mechanic look to see if the dealership has a (Platinum certified mechanic) this is entirely different than a (platinum rated dealership) I think this more of an overall rating for sales and service for instance at lifestyles Honda were i have my service done the mechanic he is one of the few that is Platinum certified for Can-Am, Sea-Doo and Ski Doo.
they have the mechanics certifications hanging on the wall in the service department this means that he has the absolute best training BRP has to offer. I was told by a friend of mine when we bought our first Spyder in 2011 that he was the only mechanic in the northwest with all three platinum certs.

here it's done by word of mouth..!! :roflblack::roflblack: how it's done out there is a mystery to us all..I get a lot of surveys for the nany places I shop but never from where I bought or the manufacturer.

Did get a settlement for $200.00 off the purchase of a new unit as a class action settlement for the dealer gouging the customers. Sadly I don't need a new roadster, bike or watercraft..

Still don't know how they rate them...:dontknow:

I know that a nearby dealer that has recently been rated gold . . . this is the same dealer that let me ride home with brake parts missing, after a service where they had to replace the parking brake cable . . . they sell a lot of Spyders, but have no interest in after sale service . . . virtually everyone I know has stopped going to them, even though they bought their Spyders there . . . if customer service is part of the rating process, I suspect it is a small enough percentage that high sales can overcome it.

I asked our district rep about ratings. He said that the technicians rated as masters were the top rated canam mechanics and the metal rating more general.
Catersville ga , Extreme Propulsion, is a platinum dealer with a master tech.

Yeh I'm right near them and know them very well, some of the staff personally, and they are good people. Just haven't had good luck with service. Nothing that they haven't made right, just mistakes that indicated a lack of expertise. Guess I'll give it another go......I'll do all of my own maintenance, I just need them for computer updates and any warranty work. I'll probably have them mount the tires, but dunno, I usually mount my own.

As you know, Brewer Cycles is a BRP Platinum Certified Dealer. So what does that mean and how is that measured?

It's not necessarily easy to become a BRP/Can-Am dealership but it's even more difficult to become Platinum Certified. The levels are listed this way; Non-Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Levels are achieved based on points earned per quarter. Points are earned by meeting various criteria within 4 different categories: Operational Excellence, Knowledge and Competencies, Customer Focus, and Brand Representation. We are evaluated on many of these daily and some at predetermined dates throughout each quarter.

You may be pleased to find that toughest category is Knowledge and Competencies followed closely by Customer Focus. Your experience, satisfaction, and feedback is extremely important to us!!! If I can help you further please let me know.

Sincerely,
Kristie

I have not read them. Just believe me when I say there are standards, and believe me you do not really want to know what they are.

We live in New Bern and bought our 2014 RTS SE6 from Performance East (PE) in Goldsboro. Why did you go to Brewer and not your local dealer?
I've had no service done by (PE) but my 3K is getting close. Any advice?

Though I don't use Facebook, (I'm soo old I have to have my trophy wife do that for me;)) I think there is a Facebook group that also posts recent reviews/experiences with dealerships.

Seems to me once a Dealership gets awarded a rating, it doesn't get pulled because their best mechanic decides to move on, so the rating stays for some time after the reason for the rating has left the building. Possible?

Dealership level is based on many factors, but the quick overview is it's a point based system. Dealers get various amounts of points in many categories (Certified and/or Master techs on staff, customer satisfaction from the surveys completed, opting in to and maintaining BRP displays, market share, warranty campaign completion percentage, etc..). I don't think being a Platinum Level dealer is a true snapshot, but it does show if the dealer is committed to BRP as a whole (each department) as it does take work to become and maintain Platinum status.

My honest recommendation if you're looking for a strong service department, is to talk to the technician ~ Know the people who are working on your Spyder. I'm sure each of you can know in a matter of minutes if the individual actually has experience (particularly with Spyders) or is just an entry level tech who got tasked with the job that day. Then when you find one, make sure you keep them, request them, build a rapport. I know from experience our Techs (especially our main Spyder tech) have a relationship with each bike that comes in. They know the little details, almost like yourself and your primary care physician, there's a history and it makes finding problems and keeping everything working much easier. Just some food for thought and hopefully it helps.

Sincerely,

David Levitt

I know a dealer (don't ask for names) that still has the 2012 "Platinum" dealer sign posted on the front door. No longer are the "mechanics" diplomas posted either. My question...watcha doing for me now? :roflblack::roflblack:

I couldn't agree more. I have been with ProCaliber, in Vancouver, Wa., since 2010. They are a 1st. rate Dealership, but it's Shawn Smoke, their Can Am Service tech that makes the dealership, for me. Shawn is the only one who touches my Spyder's. He get's a lot of national recognition and I'm fortunate to have him and Travis, the dealership mgr. covering my back.

What an interesting list. About one half of your "good dealers" recommend, order, and install, my Seal Floorboards for their customers when requested. I don't know how much, or if they charge them to install. It shouldn't be much, it only takes a few minutes. It just seems like good customer service to me
