Here's my best attempt at consolidating windshield options into a single thread:

Windshields

BRP (http://spyder.brp.com/) - The BRP touring windshield has a reputation for providing inadequate wind protection but does not greatly impact the look of the Spyder. BRP recently announced a larger option that will be available in the next year or so.

Marcel July (http://www.f1windshields.com/) - Smart guy who knows windshields inside and out. Has several options including a popular new sliding shield that can be made to fit. Some have complained of fitment issues and others report no problem at all.
http://canamspyders.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=89

Calsci (http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Spyderprod.html) - Not a whole lot of feedback on these yet. Preliminary reports are positive (http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6066&highlight=calsci). NoMagicNeon may soon offer wraps (http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6596&highlight=calsci) for this shield.
http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Spyder/spyder2.jpg

C.H.A.D. (http://www.industries7.com/pages/NProduct.jsp) - Industries7 offers an adjustable windshield. Still not a lot of feedback on this item yet but it has generated a lot of interest.
YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.

MRA Vario (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4514//) - No reviews yet but a different approach and priced on the low end.
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/ezimagecatalogue/catalogue/variations/9556-350x350.jpg

Corbin Fleetliner Fairing (http://www.corbin.com) - At $1500, it's the most expensive option available. It opens up some options for mounting weather sensitive gear. You can use standard HD windshields with the fairing. Excessive noise has been reported by some.
http://www.corbin.com/can-am/ca-fair_thm.jpg

Mel's Monster Garage (http://www.melsmonstergarage.com/index2.htm) - These are the shields you see on eBay. They are available in bronze, light gray, and clear and are inexpensive compared to some other options.
http://i1.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/f4/4d/39bf_1.JPG

Cee Bailey's (http://www.ceebaileys.com/can_am/index.html) - Available in several colors and sizes, Cee Bailey's has a lot to offer.
http://www.ceebaileys.com/can_am/images/04.jpg

Did I leave anything out?

Two others I know.

Mels Monster Garage? Sells via Ebay

Gustafsson?? (I know I must be spelling that wrong) - found it http://www.bikescreen.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CanAmSpyder0726

Then there is the Laminar Lip (I tried that and it was not much good)

That pretty much covers the major players right now.

I've ridden bikes with F1, Evo II, Evo III, Mels and CalSci.

I went with the CalSci as it works best for me. Very professional fit and finish. I would put Mels at a close 2nd, but do NOT buy his trailer hitch.

The Gustafsson has not had great reviews, although they are pretty well respected on other bikes.

CalSci is the more techie group of shield makers of the bunch. Plenty of good info from their website.

Can someone buy some more F1's so that poor girl can get some new jeans? :joke::D:joke::D

I'm really anxious to hear a rider get the CHAD unit, which as you can see from the video is fully adjustable - not just 4 positions as originally thought. There used to be another video with a guy riding at 90mph with his face shild flipped UP.

Great to have all these options, and soon the BRP version for touring.

Just read this review on the MRA windshield... Review was done on a BMW, but the first paragraph still made me laugh XD

"Well, I've had the varioscreen for a little while now. So here are my thoughts on it.
First off, is it better than stock. Kind of. Where the main wind blast would hit me it the chest, just below the armpits on the stock screen. The new one mostly hits me in the neck, on a couple of the settings at certain speeds. Sometimes it feels like there is a little person (midget, for those of you inclined to be politically incorrect) sitting backwards on the gas tank trying to choke me.

I guess I better write a better review. The screen was a special order from Twisted throttle. For some reason, I thought I was just getting the clip on, vario part. It was a whole screen. Now I wish I ordered the smoke coloured screen. Installation was a breeze, remove the 4 screws holding the stock screen in. Take the rubber bushings out of the stock and put them in the MRA screen. Screw the whole thing back together. It took maybe 15 minutes.

I've attached pictures comparing the screens before I installed them. The screen is the exact height of the stock but the top outside edges are very rounded compared to the stock.
The vario part seems to be very well made and doesn't change positions unless I change them.

To compare the 7 different settings, I went for a ride and tried them all at different speeds.
At the lowest setting (right against the main windscreen), the air is just like the stock except that the lower air blast moved up my body by about 1".
The 2nd lowest setting merely tilts the back away from the screen like a little flip. That moved it another 1-2", closing on the old neck.
The middle settings are variations of being parallel to the screen to a little flip at the rear. Wind still travels between them.
On my first ride, my favorite setting was the 2nd highest setting. At 60-70mph, there was a lessened blast hitting just below my helmet. But it was a steady blast.
After a week or so, travelling mostly on the highway. I prefer the screen at the top position (as shown in a picture below). The is a non-steady buffeting of my helmet, the midget isn't trying to strangle me anymore. The noise is a little less. The buffeting at the head takes a bit of getting use to, but it is not as strong as the constant wind of a naked bike.
If I want peace and quiet, I can now actually tuck in behind the screen for the first time, if I lay on the tank.

Conclusion: Will I replace the MRA screen? Probably not, it is better than the stock screen. Is it worth the CAD$200 that I paid (including UPS's freaking brokerage charge of $40) for it? No. If I had to do it again. I wouldn't."

BTW, I am 6'2" and the corbin seat that I just installed must have lowered me about an 1" as well.

That is the new F1 Slide. A second piece inside lifts up when needed. The shield's appearance suffers with the second shield up but it does cover and protect the face.

Which 'large version' did you install? CalSci?

Looking at this poll again something occured to me.

If the F1 folks have shipped nearly 3,000 shields as they claim, and CalSci has shipped around 100 - how come CalSci is higher in these polls as far as who owns what kind of shield?

This shouldn't be possible. With a ratio of nearly 3,000 (claimed) to 100 (actual), the F1 should be way far ahead in this poll.

I emailed Marc at CalSci to tell him how much I like my shield and asked him how many they have sold - that is where the 100 comes from.

Something seems amiss - perhaps an extra zero added to the F1 amounts?
I remember seeing #2,000 claimed quite some time ago. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they really meant #200 ?

So ,is it 300 or 3000? There is a big jump between those two numbers. I guess some people are just bad at math? :dontknow:

We have sold about 15 Cal-Sci wondsheilds so far and most people seem to like them quite a bit.

I tried the BRP "touring " screen. No good for me (6ft with 3" risers)

I then added a Laminar Lip - not much better- still does not work for me.

I then tried CHAD - now thats better - not perfect but better.

Now I have the Madstad System http:// www.robobrackets.com (http://%20www.robobrackets.com/)

Love it :2thumbs: For me this works much better.

IMHO this is better looking and suits the Spyder more than CHAD and even though it is smaller it performs soooo much better. :2thumbs:

Also here in Australia the Madstad system is hundreds of dollars cheaper than CHAD.

I have a calci large and while I can only compare it to the stock short thing that came with my phantom I really like it. It seems to be well designed and fit was perfect. I may put adjustable madstad brackets Ive seen on it eventually to try and get it a little higher.

Me too, a high  for the MadStad. I have both the brackets and their shield.
I had the stock, BRP Sport Touring, CalSci (which was good), but most of the time it was better without a windshield until the MadStad combo. If I still had my CalSci, I might have mounted that on the brackets, but the combo works better than I ever expected or hoped.

And yes, much less expensive, too.

Has anyone ridden through the rain with the CalSci? I wonder if the vent will let water through to the rider? Its getting pretty cold here in NC and I really to need to order something. Any feedback would be appreciated, I plan to call CalSci today also.

When I had it, I rode in some rain, but not a lot - mostly desert here. I never noticed any issues with the vent letting rain through or bugs for that matter.

Yes, I have ridden many miles through the rain with my Calsci shield. I wondered the same thing beforehand, but it turned out to be a non-issue. For some reason, perhaps the shape of the shield itself, very little rain comes through the vent hole. It is an excellent shield.

I have owned three windshields---The BRP sports shield, the CALSCI XL, and the CHAD. The CHAD is far superior to any of the others. Yes, you will get some rain through the CALSCI vent, you will need to place a rag over your dash. nojoke May depend on your speed.

I'm hoping to see a big response on this poll. If the original poster could edit and include the RoboBrkt that would be cool. I want a new screen but lean one direction then the other. I'm 6'1" with a 30" inseam with the BRP touring screen. It sucks and I don't think the ultra will work either. Plus its pricey for what you get. My wife is concerned about the metal bars on the sliders. But frankly, that's the screen I think will do the job. I'm looking at the product and workmanship... and if its made in the USA.

Has there been another poll on windscreen wannabe's? Ryders who want a screen but due to finances or indecision (ahem) haven't ordered the product. Which way are they leaning?

Thanks

I am 5’ 7". I own 3 windshields.
I have the original windshield that came with the 08 SM5. Looks good but does nothing for protection.

I also have the Evo III from F1. I like it very much. I think it looks good on the Spyder. When the second shield is up, it takes away from the looks a little. Protection? It does a nice job of getting the wind out of my face and throat when the second shield is up. The windshield also gives my hands some protection.

I also have the C.H.A.D. I think it takes away from the looks of the Spyder. I think it is ugly. As far as function goes, very nice protection. A noticeable difference compared to the Evo III. But that being said, the C.H.A.D does not protect the hands. The difficult part for me? Getting past the looks. I’m going to give it another try this winter.
