Just so you don't think I profess to be an expert in Native American languages, I looked this up. In Lakota mythology, Iktomi is a spider-trickster spirit, and a culture-hero for the Lakota people. Luta means red, so, I believe the name would literally mean "Red Spider." Rather appropriate, I would say! :2thumbs:

:congrats:!!!!!

I feel very lucky, even more so after three days on the road. Didn't ride to the SS office today as It is not a place where I really wanted to park it.

Will run up th the HD dealer tomorrow after dialysis to check on a little plate to attach my stickers for the Naval Air Station. I rode to NAS yesterday and registered and got the stickers but don't really want them directly on the plastic. As I have mentioned before, FL does require a MC endorsement, either 2 or 3 wheel, but to drive it on base the MSF course is NOT required. One does have to wear the regular long sleeve shirt, gloves, helmet, eye protection, and safety vest while on base.

Years ago I sewed a safety vest directly to a long sleeved shirt and cut out the areas so as to have a summer shirt that was legal on base. If you don't ride in 95 degree heat with +90% humidity you might not fully appreciate the need for max ventilation. What works in hot, DRY climate is often out of the question on the Gulf Coast.

Didn't get up to SR97 & 99 as planed today, seems my appointment with the SS office was assigned to a lady that retired last month. Got there at 8:15 and finily finished up by twenty after eleven! Should start the regular retirement by the middle of Oct and the disability insurance payments should be in a couple of months later.

Will probably spend most of the weekend on the Alabama farm, really have to get some mowing done. Still sorting tools recovered from Dad-in-Law's house and arangeing furniture in the farm house. Even with these tasks I plan to spend much of my time on the roads gaining experience.

Will be at the new VA most of the 23rd but will have the Subaru since I will be running taxi service for Crow Dog. He wouldn't mind riding but he just is not up to it with his brace and crutch!

Sorry about not answering the name question before. It IS Lakota for Red SpYder! Last three bikes were red so this one had no other choice. There was NO OTHER NAME that could possibly fit this Warrior Machine!

For those that know the Lakota it is common for the Coyote http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_11_1.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm824OGUS) (Shunkmanitu) and the Spyder http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_1_216.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm824OGUS) (Iktome) to run together. As time permits will get a copy of the favored:chat: Lakota font that I should be able to use on most applications to give a better representation of the language.

Tell me more! Is this AMA? I let the AMA go and havn't received the news letters in several years.

It might be something I could do though I would have to make a 2-1/2 day turnaround to fit it between treatments. I just don't camp any more so will get a motel. Don't know if Carolyn would be up to the ride but she could drive up.

I went by Pensacola Motor Sport Friday for my "End of Work Week Therapy", and the Red SE5 was gone:dontknow:. I couldn't even sit on the Silver :spyder:.:cus: It was gone too.

Do you know of another dealer near here. I sure would like to test ryde one.

Funny thing...After reading your post and translation of Iktome Luta, Today I was getting a book to teach my K art class next week and ran across "Iktome and the Coyote" in the school library. It was cool "knowing".:2thumbs: Thanks for the knowledge.:2thumbs:

Not a problem, Just noted that I got snowed in with them on the mountain in the '80s. For years I got the regional news letter, ex-AMA group I beleve that the club was associated with. Always got an invite to the fall gathering but never was able to make it again. Once I get all this moving and combineing of houses complete I will dig out the old photos of that OCT. and send you copies for your club history.

I know a little about how you feel, I wasted no time in running over to close the deal. Took about half an hour to raid two of my accounts and sweet talk Sunkawakakwi out of an additional three grand to make up the difference. Hamburger, beans, and greens the rest of the month but at least no payments and of course no wait for a loan approval.

This had been planed pretty much back in May but for the ordered SM-5 that has never showed up. At that time I financed a portion of a farm tractor at their 0%-for-60months instead of buying it outright knowing that I would pay a rather high interest rate on the Tryke loan and kept the savings for the Spyder.

The name Shunkmanitu is a child's name given when I was wearing little but tiny jocky shorts and running around a Pima Reaervation in Phoenix. "Uncle" Charlie, an Apache neighbor, started calling me Little White Wolf/Coyote for my pure white hair and my friendship with his Coyote/Dog mixed blood. It is said that he taught me the proper method to mark territory around our yards and allowed me an occasional chew on the unused end of a soup bone.

Though Uncle spoke only Apache and Mexican, Mom spoke Mexican, English, and Lakota so, except when my other blood line, Cherokee speaking Uncles were there we had little commuication problems. I didn't speak much at the time but the Pup did teach me some Moon Songs.

Though the Coyote is known to run with the SpYder and get into occasional trouble he is also a teacher. In additonal to my early years on coastal and inshore patrols of VietNam I operated and maintained Electronic Warfare equiptment and earned my Master Training Specialist rating in the Navy.

My degree is a BS in Biology Education though after a couple of years I refused to return to teaching and remained watching ladies in swimwear from behind the counter at an Alabama beach convience store. The OTHER BS degree came from dealing with two months every year of Spring Breakers bound for trouble on our beaches. The daily 50 mile commute along the sugar white sands by motorcycle was seldom a chore. It was the small IRA from those thirteen years that put Iktome:spyder:Luta in my driveway.

Getting back on the open road is returning my skin to the proper color it was as a child in the AZ sun and age is taking my years of long dark locks back to white. Guess that is just another around in the "circle of life"! As it was then and again now, all I have to do is to play and enjoy life!

:congrats: I just recieved mine in SILVER. The SE5 is awesome. It has made me "re-enabled" without a left leg / foot to shift with, it has given me all that I need. You will REALLY enjoy the ride. Maybe we can meet up when I ride to Florida one of these Spring days...
