Spyder ownership

I have noticed a trend on here that many of you trade in your Spyders after 2 or 3 years. Is it just because you want a new one, high mileage, or other issues? Also, does anyone have one with over 50,000 miles? What is the highest known mileage on a Spyder? I'm just curious as to how long I can expect mine to last. I just bought it last August and I'd like to keep it at least 5 years before trading. At my current rate, I expect to have between 50,000 to 60,000 miles by then.

with in our group I believe we have one going on 70,000 miles. This is an 2008 so that makes it 5 years old. Can't say why people change or trade their spyders but other than the introduction of the ST in 2013 and the new RT in 2014 driving towards change, most I know have and are hanging on to there rydes. Those that have will fill you in no doubt. Yours will last way past the 5 years and 60,000 miles making that smile semi-permanent...:roflblack:

Would not have traded my 2008 GS for a 2014 RTL if they had the same engine
990 is a great engine but I wanted the 1330 and 6th gear
You will love the Spyder no matter what engine you get
It will last a long time

I actually was getting nervous at nearly 11,000 miles on my 2008. It was going to need some planned wear items replaced and there's always an unknown of the major electronic gizmos under the plastic. I really wanted a radio and cruise and could use some extra storage on a long trip we have planned. Then I found what I believed was a great deal on a ST limited but figured that they wouldn't want my trade and that a handbrake kit probably wasn't available for that model. I was wrong on both. They offered me huge money on my trade and isci does in fact make a handbrake kit. So I HAD to trade lol. Now I have a 4 year warranty too

Went from 2 wheels to 3 in 2008 with a GS. The wife was never comfortable on 2 wheels as a passenger. She rode along much more with the GS and added the saddle bags for storage and changed the foot peg locations. Then in 2010 saw the RT. Sat on it, kicked the tires, etc. but held off doing anything. Then a friend shows up with his 2010 RT and raved about handling, seating, comfort. The following spring got serious about the RT. Dealer had a red RTs and I was hooked. Wife tried it out and said yes, liked the upgrade so the deal was made. Much nicer ride and the upright seating is great for me. Of all the upgrades the passenger floorboards, the cruise control and adjustable windshield were top of the list. Have looked at the 14 but still very happy with the 2011. But maybe next year the 15 might just tempt me again.

Lady ran a red light and T-Boned my 2010. Totalled it. This was in early 2012. I purchased my 2013, December 28, 2012. I do plan on trading every two to three years though. It's a toy that I enjoy, and I understand that you pay for a toy.

I have been a newest and greatest type of person so have now gone through 4 :spyder2:'s and am on #5.

My highest mileage was 36,500 on my 2010 RTS. No major problems with it. There are some that are over 50,000 and have heard of two or three with 100,000 or more miles.

put a 100,000 on both an RS and and RT My 2014 has a 4 year warranty so I plan to ride it 100000 miles

I went from a 2011 RT SM to a 2013 RT SE after watching how easily my wife handled hers one day when we were stuck in heavy traffic.
15,500 on the 2011, just turned 21,000 on the 2012.

My wife put 13,000 on her 2010 RT SE but traded to a 2012 RT SE when the Lava Bronze color came out. She now has just under 16,000 on the 2012.

I put 59,148 miles on my 2010 and only traded it in when a part malfunctioned while at Spyderfest last year. I had reached the point where I was going to keep it until the wheels fell off but given the situation and a decent trade in deal at Pitbull I got a 2013. That one burned up which necessitated me purchasing a 2014.

Murphybrown just traded in her RT with almost 70,000 miles on it.
