View Full Version : Stalled out at a bad place

Hello, Everyone!
I have a 2010 RT-AC SE-5, whose name is Smurfette that up until now has been relatively issue free. Aside from a couple of first-model year issues, like a couple of oil leaks, throttle body replacement, and a few recalls (none engine related), this has never happened before. We were on a slow paced ride (never got out of first gear for approximately 15 miles), very little braking since it was fully police escorted, and she stalled out when we were pulling in to park. It would not re-start, and when it did, it would not keep running without my hand on the throttle. As there was nothing I could do at the time, I took the key out, and walked away to participate in the blessing ceremony. Approximately 30 minutes later, I walked back to my bike, restarted it, and no problems! Seeing as we were close to my dealership where I bought Smurfette, hubby went in front of me, and a friend followed me, and we headed straight for the dealership. The only code I saw was a check engine light that came on for about two minutes after I left my parking spot, and it went out after driving a short way. It shifted normally, and I didn't see the dreaded "limp mode" light. I regularly check the oil level,battery connections (original battery), and there was plenty of fuel. Anyone have any ideas what (or why it) happened? Hoping it's something simple, will know in a day or two. Maybe Ms. Nanny was :cus: after being in the same gear for that far?

Could Smurfette have overheated from the low-speed, first gear pace? :dontknow:

Sounds similar to when I got a Spyder stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident in Hawaii. It went into limp mode. After pulling it to side of road and waiting about a half hour (the time to clear the accident) it restarted with no issues or warning lights.

Believe me, I hope it's a simple thing. Dealer will probably hook it up to B.U.D.S tomorrow.:pray:

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. I finally met Ms. Nanny and her dreaded friend Limp mode! WhenI took her to the dealer, they started by checking all the usual suspects including fluid levels, battery connections, etc. Nothing was amiss. Then they hooked her up to BUDS, and were only able to pull up one code. No other codes appeared. I spoke to the service tech, and told him exactly what happened. He said "Yup, that's the computer sensing a problem and shutting the bike down to prevent engine damage." That's why Nanny reset after about a half hour. She was :cus: and giving me a:lecturef_smilie:! Smurfette is home and happy with her big brother, the Tri Glide. I've driven her since then, and she's performed beautifully. My thanks to everyone here for giving me a great place to start looking for the solution :bowdown: Did I mention Smurfette also became a donor this week? She helped her lil brother Grey Ghost (a friends' Spyder) with a jumpstart when he had a battery problem... so proud of my baby girl!:yes:

Have you consider "riding the brake' I have done it a couple times on slow rides. I think it throws a bake code of some kind. . Key out and wait a couple minites and Nanny resets. Tell the dealer when you take it in, so they do not spend a lot time looking. About the wait of a piece of paper on the pedal for a few seconds and Nanny thorws the limp mode. A couple years, there was a lot of this.
