View Full Version : My last mod- Lamonster Cold Air Intake

Lamonster
09-02-2008, 03:08 PM
I've been playing with this fuel/air quite a bit on the 109 and we can leave the stock air box in but feed it cool air from the outside of the bike and pick up about 5hp.

The same should be true for the Spyder and maybe even better seeing the air is so hot inside those panels. So I got a wild hair and made up a cold air intake using off the shelf parts and keep the stock air box. You can leave your filter in if you want or take it out, I don't think it's going to matter all that much but getting cool air will. I'll post more details later.

This is my last mod.....today.:D

Well........ I must say; it's unique! :D

With the additional air drag, you will probably lose that 5hp gain.

Lamont: What about scoops leading into the airbox, bringing only outside air in through tubes?

I WAS THINKING SOME WHERE ALONG THE SAME LINES. BUT I WAS GOING TO TRY AND USE THE FOG LIGHT HOLES AND CONNECT THE TUBES TO THE AIR BOX. I'LL HAVE TO LOOK AT THAT WHEN I HAVE THE PANELS OFF NEXT TIME. JUST A THOUGHT IS ALL

My daughter took her Mom's Honda Accord to college. When she came back, her boyfriend had put a wing on the back of it. Mind you, this is a four door sedan, a "Mom Car" and it had a ricer wing on it. Oh yeah, when you got a small engine a thumping and it gets up to 70 MPH, you gotta have a wing for down force :dontknow:

The top piece can be replaced if I hate it. So far I like it.

I may see if Magic Man could make some killer looking scoops right there. The concept is still sound. Cool air makes more power. That's why you see all these Cold Air Intakes on the market now.:doorag:

Great idea on having MM do some nice scoops! And, there is no question that bringing in cooler air from outside is an advantage. I have an aFe CAI on my V6 Frontier.

If MM were to do this, that would be a very marketable item for the Spyder, I would think. Making it a complete package with hoses leading to the airbox would be really nice!

I drink beer. Beer had nothing to do with this latest mod. Stronger forces had to come into play here. :yikes:

No.... A bit too much 'bling' for me - these 'top fuel' looking intakes. The scoops, similar to the ones pictured earlier, would be more what I would want. Simple intakes, keeping the lines clean, uncluttered. :)

I know you were joking, Lamont. But, if your mods continue at this rate. I would say, within 6-10 weeks, it's quite possible, you will be about right here, afterall...........

My last 5 rides have all been in magazines with a front cover on one of them. The reason is that all my rides have something about them to make them magazine worthy. I have a pretty good eye for what works but it takes me a few hit and misses to get it right. I'm sure the Spyder will be the same.:doorag:

 We're all here! Put us to use. A Poll would be good for something like this.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And, everyone has different tastes.

Here's why I prefer the scoop inlets. To me, raised scoops keep the Spyder's lines flowing. They work with the overall design. Yes; they're purposeful. But, they also say something about performance without interrupting the design. :)

My last 5 rides have all been in magazines with a front cover on one of them. The reason is that all my rides have something about them to make them magazine worthy. I have a pretty good eye for what works but it takes me a few hit and misses to get it right. I'm sure the Spyder will be the same.:doorag:
:agree:the work that I have saw Lamonster do and design are very worthy of being in our Magazine we would not have drove over 600 miles to do a photo shoot on his 109 if not .and he is on the front cover of our Magazine and we are thankfull he let is put it there .and by the way we are keeping a eye one his Spyder :spyder:

I might have missed this but what magazine are we talking about? I've been looking for a good motorcycle magazine to get a subscription to.

If you put " spyder roadster review " into Google, it pulls up quite a few online mags reviews.

Rider magazine had a Spyder test in their September issue. Here is a link to the story:

I haven't seen the latest issue of Road Rider, but I understand there is an article about the Spyder gathering in Valcourt in that issue.

They touch on the Spyder in the new issue of Motorcyclist as well. Of course it's a weird article because they're writing about the Spyder, the MP3, and the Quad GG like they're all in the same class of bike.:dontknow:
